Anyone know where I can get the collar/sleeve ? The round thing that attaches to the synchro? The mechanic said my synchros and collar is worn... Crunches into gear(any gear) only happen occasionally, so I was wondering if it is worth the wait to source these things... I cant seem to find anyone that sells these...
My only issue really is stiff 1st & 2nd gear on cold starts, so...

Re: The Gearbox & Diff thread
Ah where'd you get them ?
And how many collars are in the gearbox again? I think I only need the collars and synchros for 1st to 2nd gears... maybe 3rd too?
The guy showed me the wear on the collar's teeth... If i looked at it myself, i wouldnt have noticed a difference, but him being a tranny mechanic, pointed it out to me.
Or do I just stuff that and put the gearbox back together with the new bearings and clutch?
From what saw and remember, it looked like these things:

Is there a way of checking the amount of gearbox oil?
Because nothing is faster than a p plater in a commodore.....
except maybe a p plater on a unicorn

Re: The Gearbox & Diff thread
Pull the filler bolt out (not the drain bolt), if you're on a level surface a little bit should drip out, then it's perfect.

Re: The Gearbox & Diff thread
Oil grade you've used is too heavy. Use the correct grade oil 75W-85.silverGPX wrote:difficult down shifts into 2nd when box is cold
Rebuild your gearbox & replace 3rd gear syncro.silverGPX wrote:grinding into 3rd at high revs

Hey Ben, you get a chance to do a video on how to check your syncros for wear? So I can put it in the DIY vid.

Re: The Gearbox & Diff thread
What would it be if I'm getting the rattling bearing type noise at a stop with the clutch out in a recently rebuilt box? :/

Re: The Gearbox & Diff thread
Yeah, had a chat to Vectose, seems to be likely culprit. Will have to take it back to the shop and see what's what... Thing in the back of my mind is that when they opened the the kit they found the supplied bearing was incorrect, so sourced another. But maybe it was actually the right one? Who knows, will find out I guess.spetz wrote:Clutch release bearing?
