So the picture with all the blue cables. They are running from the patch panel to what?
Got any pics of these media PC's?

The patch leads all go into a 24 port switch (or hub if going for the simpler version) - also going into that switch is the internet connection so it can be shared to all things connected to it.
The media PC's are simply small desktops I've pinched from work & loaded XP on

Just using wireless keyboards & mice that live on the coffee tables
Then I just use
VLC to watch movies with &
Winamp to listen to music from the desktop.

Ok so the media pc's are connected to the main pc (or server) via the cat 6 cable? Then to access movies and music that are stored on the server you just run either one of those programs that are loaded on to each media pc?
Is that correct? Sorry but im a such a noob with this stuff!

Exactly, you just map a network drive to the server & stream your stuff over the network to the media pc via either of those programs.
There are fancier ways of doing it too. I like to keep it simple, but if you have a PS3 & you load all your media (movies and music) into a Windows media player library, you can then use the PS3 as your media pc
Once you're all hooked up via the network, theres dozens of ways to get it all playing around the house.

Looks like they did a good job, did you have much problems getting D.A. approval for anything?

Thanks goldie.
Yeah they did a great job.
We had a little problem to start with which was more to do with us not wanting to pay $1300 to chop down two fkn trees. It delayed us about a month and then in end when we finally said we would pay it, the council submission was entered, the council turned around and said "Oh no you dont have to pay it for those 2 trees". FARKKKKKK.
But other than that it has been sweet.

Yeah, tree positioning can be PITA for D.A's, glad you got it sorted
