Re: BJK's '95 GPX
I rode a bike once on a mates farm. I always found it funny how much heavier they seem when they're not moving.
Ordered timing belt kit and plugs from ol' Camskill. Just got to pick up a water pump and hopefully the lower km engine. Still a bit to organise...

Picked up the Camskill stuff from the depot. Bought the engine and got it taken to Tim's. Need to still get the water pump and a number of gaskets/seals. Rolling along!

Noice! How many kms on the engine? Are u getting the timing kit put on before ya put it in the car, any idea how much cheaper it is?
Because nothing is faster than a p plater in a commodore.....
except maybe a p plater on a unicorn

Yeah, doing all the belts and stuff. Spark plugs as well. I was told the engine had 70,000kms, but Tim reckons it might be a bit more as it seems the timing belt has been off once before.destinationtoby wrote:Noice! How many kms on the engine? True. Long as it's a good amount less than 200,000kms and still runs strong I don't mind.Sahin wrote:yeah but remember its every 100,000kms or every 5 years for the timing belt change... Yeah, dunno how they managed that one. My brother joked that it would be funny if it went right to where I was parked. But my tires are much wider anyway, so no mistaking there.vipfto wrote:Haha love the one wheeler burnout

(not to mention I can only really spin tires in the wet, hah)

Had a quick go at shoppin' some Mazda6 headlights on, seeing as the curves are kinda similar. Dunno how it would look from other angles, but gotta say I don't mind it from the front! Although this is silly because this would cost too much money to be worthwhile.

I like stock too. This just sort of gives is that aggressive and more modern look in one because of the downwards slant instead of the rounded top.ash1987 wrote:i like the stock ones better but that doesnt look to bad

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
SO THEN. It's been a couple days since the event, but I haven't been arsed to put the photos up asides from facebook, so now I'll do a post here. Over the weekend Tim and I (read: Tim 99%, myself 1%) did the engine conversion for the lower km MIVEC engine I bought. So far the only issues are a temperamental speedometer (starts and then dies after a while, thought it made it home no issue last night), and a bit of a crackle on startup. Otherwise, for what was reckoned about a 10 hour job, excluding timing belt etc that Tim did earlier, everything went pretty smoothly.
Started about 4.30pm Saturday afternoon and finished mid-evening getting the old motor out, and by the time I got back Sunday afternoon most everything was already back in. Was a bitch to turn over (Tim was not worried, I was slightly
), but it made it eventually. Should have done a manual conversion and extractors and coilovers all at the same time, haha. If only I had moar money.
Anyway, have some pictures:
Bonnet popped and it begins!

Things coming out.

Engine cranes are the best thing ever.

Weight saving! \o/

Do you even lift bro.

Dat fitment.

pretending to be a RWD drag car.

In with the new(er).

Wish I had dish like this on the other side of the rim! Also, the bonnet looks tiny when not on the car.

Almost done.

And presto. #bunningsracing

Could never say it enough, but massive props to Tim (vipfto) for his mechanical expertise and giving up a weekend to help a noob like me. Hopefully I can retain some of what I saw and learnt.
