what about shipping and complience, when I imported my FTO early this year it cost about $6500 for the car and to get it deregestered in japan, $5500 for complience, then my car went through customs so more money spent there, don't forget the shipping from japan, I had to spend more money for my car to be put on a truck from brisbane to sydney to get complied then back up to bisbane again.

The car cost about $18,500 in the end ready to be regestered.

Damn, guess that is why they are so expensive there...

How's this? My mate from Auckland picked up an R34 GTt in Japan for equiv $5.5k NZD (he works for a car yard) and got dirt cheap shipping. Car, shipping, customs, certification, registration etc, came to a total of ~$9k (needed some work done which was included in that cost too)...

When it comes to cars, this country rocks, and all those vehicles that you need to get low volume compliance for (GTR's, FTO's, GTiR's etc etc) we can just import as many as we want/need to...

Woman I know picked up a 1997 Lancer MR (?), mags, bodykit etc for $4k landed and legal...

You all should come here, the money you save on a car could put a deposit on a house :D

The NZ government may not do much right, but this is right on...

Few years ago the government banned the importation of all pre 1996 cars re new frontal impact standards. All cars already here were fine but anything new had to be post '96.

Down side: No more R32 GTR's, GTiR's (since not many post 1996 ones) etc...

Up side: Practically everyone in New Zealand now has the opportunity to buy a modern vehicle. Some people say the 5-0's speed campaign is lowering our road toll, I say it is all these modern cars :)

WOW, I just realised I had about 4 different conversations with myself LOL

I feel that I got riped off, but I'm still happy with my car, the crap thing is I'm still paying off my car and on 2nd yr apprentice mechanic wage I don't even earn $300 a week, so life is very dull at the moment, I will turn 3rd yr soon so a big jump in pay.

any ways how much is a VR4 galant with the 6a13TT motor in NZ, I heard that those galants have got active YAW control like on the EVO, I wouldn't mine getting one of those to replace the liberty.

hey but my friend actually ship cheap cars from japan to AUS, well not as ship as NZ but for an fto, it's around $12000

i dunno how he does it though... but it was too late for me to get one.. how sad..

when you ship them over you can have them stored in a container, or drive on drive off which is cheaper but there is more chance of your car getting damaged, parts stolen like the headunit and is explosed to the sea air, I had mine come over in a container.

We'd love to come to NZ, but I don't think I could ever get comfortable with the whole "sexual intercourse with a sheep" thing which seems to be the trend down there  :P
