Not sure, think I need to drive it and see what's going on but it looks to be plumbed in right, big turbo and big intercooler though.
Could it be bleeding boost anywhere but the wastegate like through seals or anything? (we've undone bolts on the turbo housing a few times to rotate it into the right position but they are all tight now)

One of his hoses from the intercooler but up near the throttle body keeps popping off so i'm taking that as a good sign (that he probably is making boost when it happens).
It's one that we cut as it was too long so has no beading on it, going to try the vice grips method of adding a bead and see if that helps.
But he said this is at around 6000rpm, he's got a manual boost controller on the way so that may help hold boost/make it sooner (he says in hope).

14psi spring now in the wastegate and still not making any boost, not even 1psi and we've fixed the popping off pipe (hand beaded it - it's a bit rough but worked).
What's going on, bad turbo? (brand new but been sat for a while)

Surely he should make even a little boost?

EDIT:I've sent him out to buy a few bits so I can make him a boost leak tester, will pressurise the intake side from the turbo onwards and see what happens.

Are you putting it under load or just revving it in the garage

He's blasted it on a long road.

What about ign timing as I knocked it back a bit in his emanage just for safety till he can get it on a dyno? (only 1-2 degrees, there's no 98 fuel up here also highest is 95)

I still wonder if the turbo is just too big along with the large intercooler and he's on stock cams not turbo cams (until the cams have been made)
The turbo shaft spins freely by hand and there no play.
Turbo is brand new, IC is brand new, same with bov and external wastegate.

We've just removed the bov last night and put a straight pipe in it's place just in case it's always venting to atmosphere but haven't driven it since.
Also made a boost leak tester so will be pressurising his system in a short while to see if there are any leaks but I would imagine it would have to be big for zero boost.

Yes a little bit.

I've just driven the car and took the laptop along for data logging the emanage.

IT IS MAKING BOOST.
I know he had some loose clips (some crap ones that wouldn't tighten much - I've told him to throw away and get new) and this was evident after pressure testing so maybe that's helped.

But it's boosting late, 4500 and then it jumps in at 6psi, only goes up to 7psi.
His gauge isn't working but the emanage logged it as follows
1.7volts at 4500
1.8volts at 5500
1.9volts at 6000
1.9volts at 7000
Pretty sure 1.7 is around 6psi but I need to dig my conversion chart out.
It was pretty scary, expected the thing to blow up or catch on fire, I hate turbos! (well custom installs like this)
IMO we just need to make it safe now (from the above) and focus on getting more boost earlier as this turbo should be capable of a lot more unless it's crap, he does have another one to try.

He's just told me he got the new clips this afternoon but hasn't fitted them yet, some i'm hoping it may make a little more boost/earlier too.
May also help when his turbo cams go in as some of his boost is going straight out the exhaust port isn't it?

Don't think it'll be any earlier with that turbo. I am hitting full boost around 4k with a TD05-16G

Yup

Needs a bit of tidying up now, and air filter putting back, and the bov.
He's got more T-bolt clamps on order - we squirted soapy water around those pipes and some did blow bubbles.

I tapped two more holes in the back of the plenum.

And yeah, way too many joiners

There are many more than what you can see there mate, a few hundred dollars worth at least.
Maybe a job for later.
But yeah all potential points of failure/leaks.
On a side note on mine I will have one pipe and two clamps with the supercharger - charge cooler/plenum combo

Good progress there with the troubleshooting. That's gonna be a kick in the pants with the boost coming on late when it does! I know Tim's is small enough he's almost on boost cruising in 5th at like 100kph, so he can just nail the throttle and he's off.

Well the oil feed on top of the turbo did come off and empty all over, he was lucky that he didn't set on fire or blow the engine.
All good now though new fitting and pipe on.

Cams should be in soon.
Meth injection kit ordered so something else to get fitted - I see the reasons for this as 70% to protect the engine by keeping temps down and 30% to gain a little power, I think Rows idea is the other way round or maybe 90% of his reasoning is more power and 10% to keep temps down.
