that really has go to suck...did u get the parts list + labour quote before proceeding? and did u ask about any potential extras? i would think that only if you have this will it make an itemised bill of any use

these things that werent on the original quote were unexpected items that they never thought of incurring expenses for... but they never told me that they were going over that quote. They never advised me how much it had ended up costing which was the biggest suprise of my life!
do i have a case?

to me its a bit touch and go...if you are thinking court action then from what i have noticed, you have to be very persuasive if what you are going on is verbal interactions with the shop (hard copies on the other hand cannot be faulted in theory)...what you do have is that they are obliged to notify you of any expenses to be incurred on top of the quote for the work that is to be done, because you need to give the go ahead...if they didnt then that helps you out a bit...again in court, it would be how well you can convince them of this...but i hope you do realise that a quote is just a guesstimate and doesn't set the price they give you in concrete

Did they give you a verbal quote for the previous amount or was it written? If you have a written quote you got a leg to stand on, cos basically that's the work that was requested. Any further work required or not calculated as apart of the original quote will need to have your consent before proceeding. So if they said yeh, this isn't working out going to cost more and you said yeh no problems then you may have to bare the cost. If not then you got a leg to stand on.
Either way, definitly be contacted the smail claims tribunal to get this sorted. You might wanna consider getting them to stop more work on your car before they decide to throw in a few more k on the price. Goodluck

I was talking to a mechanic friend of mine today about this thread and he told me that the workship can not legally hold your car if you have requested it back. If you walk in there and ask for your keys, they legally HAVE to comply. If not, you are entitled to call the police.
In that scenario, however, the workshop can then remove any parts on the car that you have not paid for, as they are technically still owned by the business.
Call the police or hire a solicitor. Better yet, do both.

you bought most of the parts yourself though didnt you?
what they are charging you for is mainly labor costs and little parts?
do you reckon they would give you receipts on how much they paid for all the little parts?
like not how much they are selling them to you for but how much they got them for
id say to try to avoid going to any court about it cause its a bit of a gamble and you could be about even more $$$

first of all they will tell you to mediate yourself and if that fails the courts have to act.
They may suggest a mediator but it is only a suggestion. If both parties are not willing to settle out of court. The court "must" settle the dispute and $70 fee for small claims is hardly expensive.
Trust me... I have done this several times now, it may be different in other states but I hardly doubt it is much different

You couldn't pay me enough! Thats intake manifold off, rocker covers off, rocker arm assemblies off, PS & Alternator belts & tensioners off, harmonic balance pulley off, timing cover off, timing belt off, cams out of the cam carriers & then - reverse.... and hope you dont fuckup the timing in the belt or the verniers. Oh and throw in having to reset every single tappets (again.) All done in car too.... with 10cm of room to do the timing belt down that side of the engine...
I'd rather drink out of a toilet, sorry

Big reason why I love SOHC 4 cylinder engines.
Good to hear the car is slowly on the completing line.

I've been through to tips so far, the rebuilder told me the torque convertor in the FTO is crap.

The place that is going to rebuild a gearbox for me (when I get around to it) told me that the factory gearbox is very strong, even the torque converter. Then again, it's like a manual equipped car being red lined and clutch dumped burning out the clutch faster, if you load up the torque converter on any auto equipped car many times you will cook the torque converter.
If you don't thrash the nuts off your Tip equipped FTO then your gearbox WILL handle a lot of power. In fact, estimates would put mine at over double at the flywheel with no problems other than what has been previously stated. The beauty of a 6a13tt FTO with standard turbos is that you don't have to load up the torque converter to launch (in fact, if you do you sit there in a cloud of tyre smoke, trust me, I have done that.. ony once though).
To summarise; if you have to load up the torque converter, you can and will cook the Tip faster. But they can and DO handle a sh*t load of power

I don't drive mine much any more, but I just took it out for a blat to goto an appointment, still makes me grin every time I am on boost.
Reason for that is that the turbos give a huge hit of torque with as little as 2000 rpm.

Well my tip hasnt missed a beat (touch wood) and it must be close to a year since the turbo install.
