* Chinese officials have admitted the young girl in the opening
ceremony was lip-synching to another girl singing.
Apparently the girl singing was not the image China wanted to portray,
her face was a bit chubby and her teeth were not straight.

UPDATE 15/8 P.M.

* Australian swimmer Leisel Jones has collapsed near the pool after being
dramatically beaten for the gold medal in the 200m breaststroke,
later saying she couldn't breathe because she swam so hard.
pffft... like that's an excuse for not winning gold?!?

* Warren Potent has won australia's first shooting medal at Beijing
with a bronze in the 50m rifle prone.
If he's that good a shooter why didn't he just shoot the 2 guys that beat him?

* in un-related news, a terrorism book at the center of major
trial in Sydney lists "cake throwing" as a killing technique.
instead of icing, an adhesive substance would be used to suffocate the victim.

it's coz the guys suck... Eamon Sullivan holds the world record in the 50m freestyle,
and he finished SIXTH... choke!!!!
and grant hackett has already started spreading rumours that he's sick,
so that he's got an excuse for not winning anything.

it also doesn't help that Michael Phelps (USA) is winning everything,
he's now up to his seventh gold medal of the Beijing olympics,
which makes him equal record holder... 1 more and he breaks it.

we should do alright in the indoor cycling though,
i reckon we'll pick up 2 or 3 there.

* Aussie Jared Tallent has picked up the bronze in the men's 20 kilometre Walk.
Later on tonight i'll be competing in the 2 kilometre Crawl
as i try to get home from the Stamford Hotel.

* In un-related news, former Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib
has been fined for swearing and offensive behaviour at a McDonald's restaurant.
Habib was fined $200 and staff at the Bankstown fast-food outlet
have been warned to keep an eye out for low-flying planes.

* Australian long jumper Bronwyn Thompson is considering retirement
after missing the final of the women's long jump.
She battled a series of ankle and back injuries in the past six weeks,
and had to settle for 17th place.
yep, pull the pin lady, you're waaaaaaaaaay off the pace.

* the BMX event at the olympics starts tomorrow!!!!
