Well rxboy, thats what my friend told me, who work at Just Cars, & i ask him the same question as well, he assure me AAMI owns them! Well we can always look it up at the ASIC to make sure! Even it really doesn't concern anyone! heeheheh

its kinda tricky.. AAMI and just cars are owned by the same company.. i think its called promina .. they just had a big share float.. there were ads all over the telly... i think they also own royal and sun allience insurence as well

anyways.. when it comes down to it.. Just cars is "Underwritten" by AAMI
Not Owned by.. both companys are "Owned" by a larger Corperation

Yeah Boney has got it right. I had an assessor come to validate my damage last week and he also said that Shannons/Just Car/AAMI/Royal & Sun Alliance etc...are all owned by the larger Promina group.

As a side note I found Famous/Classic the cheapest for me until they asked about mods and they declined me cover. In the end I had to go with Just Cars because my car is too "risky" for any other company to cover!

Lol, one thing I wish I could find out when I was buying insurance for the FTO was how reliable the company was when a claim did come up. I had heard all these stories about insurance companies taking money and then finding any reason to deny claims and that scared the crap outta me, and it had me emailing my insurance agent every little thing I found about the car e.g. tinting, lowered (something I found out only *after* a while) etc etc.
Anyway, I'm with Famous Classic Cars Insurance, all the way in the WA, and they're currently handling a claim. Its not completed yet but so far the experience seems positive. After faxing in the claim, they got back to me within an hour and had an a asessor there the next day. Also, the assessor rang me and told me to goto a place to get a quote as he felt that the damage bill would be less than my excess ($2500 ish apparently!!). He said only proceed with the claim if the bill goes over my excess and that I would get trade rates at this place. And the owners working there agree. Also a plug with the towing company who towed my car to a 'prestige specialist' and 'suspension speicalists' to get quotes, rather than any joe blow mechanic, of which there were quite a few right next door/opposite!
Anyway, I pay $2980 a year, 19 year old rating 5/6 (the rating didn't seem to matter, only my age between 5/6) for full comp, covered to $22,000. Excess $1000, plus under 25 excess of $1000, another $1000 if its stolen.
It's nearly 15% of the price of the FTO =P But not all FTO's are priced at 22k so you have to decide whether its worth it or not for full comp money to 'go down the drain'... I got it for peace of mind, as I'm paranoid (pager alarm etc)... But not everyone has this problem.

i believe "Heritage" is also a foreign underwriter, not approved by APRA (the Australian Predential Regualatory Association, or something). they also underwrite "Famous Classic" in subiaco. i've been looking into this for the last few weeks, and if this "Heritage" lot are ok, i'd like to know about it: famous gave me an awesome quote for a WRX.....

so RESPONSE may not be all that "fixed" after all....

this is a quote from the famous insurance website (www.famousinsurance.com.au)

quote:

Famous policies are underwritten by Heritage Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd (Heritage) which is fully registered and licenced in Guernsey. Guernsey has an outstanding reputation for innovation and professionalism in the world of international insurance - see the Guernsey web site for further information.

This means your policy is subject to strict supervision under the regulations of an internationally recognised prudential regulatory regime and is not the jurisdiction of the Australian Predential Regulation Authority

Here's a link to the story in the SMH. I spoke with Jeni today and it appears that the new underwriter for the response policies is NOT an approved insurer in Australia.

Hi guys,

I happened to read this forum as it's time for me to renew my insurance..
I have been with Dawes for a year and realised that their service is the worst I have ever seen in my entire life!!!
I'm the one paying the money and yet I feel like I owe them some thing ever time I call them.
The price were very competitive, but with a crapy service like that,
I would like to find out if any one has made a claim with these guys.

Just make sure you don't go with Dawes!!!
They are the worst in service!!! Don't be sorry after having an accident, joinning with Dawes, blinded by their low premium!!!

Now, for my reason for posting this message...
Can any one give any updates on insurance companies that are very good?
I am looking to insure my car again, but not really sure where I want to go. So I thought I'll just ask every one what they think about their insurance company and some contact details will be great!

Thank you in advance guys!!
:)
