Serviced my FTO today and took it for a run in the country

I also serviced the Galant...
Found that the radiator cap had craped itself and fell apart, I had to fish a few of it's bits out of the top of the radiator.
Bought a new one from supercheap..."Everything auto and not much more"

I also serviced the Laser.

My starter motor is playing up.
So today I removed it and stripped it down.
The 2 positive brushes are worn down to near nothing, the 2 negative ones are nearly full size.
I will asume that the positive ones wear down quicker due to power/sparks/extra heat.

I found some replacement brushes on eBay from the UK for $35 delivered

Amayama has them for $16.60 + delivery ex Japan
Both about 12 - 18 days delivery time.

Mitsubishi Aust has them with the holder for $136

I gave the info to my local Auto Pro, he will contact me when he gets some info.

EDIT: I just found the brushes in the holder from Ireland for $28 delivered, Hmmm?

Rebuilt the starter motor today.
Got the brushes from my OzVR4 contact.
I had to wait 2 months for the brushes to come from Japan.
They cost my $19 delivered.

Just took it for it's first 2016 drive, it was fun

How long do you expect the starter to last now? Kiz and I have been having lots of starter motor conversations.

It should last another 20 years, the brushes were the only part worn.
It has heaps moar grunt and speed now.

I'm guessing that the motor is the hardier stock unit as well? We were considering finding out whether it was worth buying brand new units and not the Galant knockoffs that are cheaper but don't last as long. (I did grab some cause I needed them though, as did Kiz haha)

Yes it is the stock unit.
New starter from Mitsi Aus is over $1k.
I'm glad I repaired mine for $19 and 4 hours work.

Trouble would be finding an actual stock unit nowadays. They're probably mostly cheap replacements.
