Should be here this week, so i can wire them and finish up with then front end.
After this will:
Put gpx rotors andn pads upfront.
Fix exhaust leak and add muffler and in rear section.
Paint oem wheels in silver with fresh clear.
Put climate control back in
Get a shift boot and new shifter

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Done abit more work on the fto, just minor stuff.
Been looking at how to spray a red candy as considering painting the rocker cover in this, similiar to the 4g63 colour.
I cleaned up my kickpanel as they were pretty shagged and repainted in a matt black. Got my EL Panels for the stainless kickplate working so will put these back in the car shortly.
Re-painted my FTO Stockies with the dupli-colour silver wheel paint and hit them with a 2k clear. Clear is still drying but look pretty nice.
Will take some pictures soon

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Also, if you a using a newer single shot candy it helps to add a little base into your initial coat of clear. Just helps give it a little more lift like old school candys.

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Can you say that again in rattle can? Which is most likely what he's using.

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Yeah im not using a gun/compressor just using spray cans.
@getonit what do you think a decent way to do a candy using a can is?
What ive seen online is people using either a chrome or metallic silver for basecoat then spray a duplicolor metalcast for the candy.
I watched guy otherday do what you mention mixed the candy with his clear and sprayed, which looked good.
Maybe I'll give my paintshop a call and see of they can mix me something up put it in a can.

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Tried again with a different basecoat, getting closer to what i want.

My camera cant really pick it up, but in person it doesnt look as flat as in the picture.
This is the side by side from otherone i tried

These are the cans i used.

I seen someone use their silver metalcast then red which looked good. Might give that a go

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
If you are rattle canning it then a metallic silver will certainly help. Get the clear on nice and wet and should be good.adzski wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 9:17 am Yeah im not using a gun/compressor just using spray cans.

Do not lay up too many coats of the candy though, 3 at most.

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Thanks @getonit I tried a different metallic silver as a base coat (duplicolour silver metalcast) came out a lot better, the red is abit richer/darker.
This is what im going to go with (last one on right)

I think im just gonna buy a spray gun as i have a compressor for anything else i spray. Getting over the spray cans

Purrdey.
Now sand those embossed letters on the valve cover down to bare metal, polish, then call it a day!
Always looks great on candy.

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Thanks @slippercream
I was going to do that last night, but i got lazy and just went for the clear, suppose i could do it now and mask the surrounding area and lightly sand it.
Here pic now with the coil cover

I still need to do the rear manifold, i was debating on whether to do it as no one will see it, but i think if i dont i will bother me and everytime i pop the hood i will kick myself.
Have to try and source some gaskets, hopefully some local shops have something

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Yeah man - looks awesome! I'd say when you get a chance to sand the letters, light-dust with some clear adhesion promoter and do another coat of clear. You will want to make sure that bare AL doesn't have a chance to oxidate. It will eat away at your paint layer around the lettering.
Here's a vid I just happened to have on my YouTube queue. Pretty damn inspiring - he rattle-canned his base, too. Yours is pretty damn good though, and I don't have time to hydro anything. (Heck, can't even get the time to work on the car these days, much less that.)

Re: ADZSKI'S FTO
Thanks guys, keen to see how it all looks fitted.
Well the rear rocker was kinda pointless as i wont see it lol.
Here is side by side of both of them

Pretty happy with how both came out.
Interesting though the rear rocker is a slight different shade.
I ran out of the duplicolour silver wheel paint so i just laid down the silver metalcast which has slightly affected its shade.
If anyone wants to do something similiar below is paints used/order
Primer
Duplicolor Silver wheel paint
Duplicolor Silver metalcast
Duplicolor Red metalcast
2k Clear coar
