Quite possibly. Only way to find out is to get under the car & check. Get hold of either end & twist back & forth in alternate directions. If there's any play, there's your problem.

Nice one, ta. I'll see what he wan'ts for a CV too. If he can beat $90, he's got the job.

How'd you manage to get a curtain rod through, wouldn't the differential be in the way?
Nah, its lock tight on the nut time now. Im fortunate, the Cusco diff centre is straight through. The vR's torsen type is not.

That's interesting as I get the same issue which I attributed to my less than stellar condition diff; all she needs to do is make it back to CHCH in a couple of weeks from Wellington then she will be parked up and pulled apart to get some TLC... it's been a while, I been neglecting her /sigh

Planning to drop the engine out, check hose condition and replace as necessary, same with the mounts and axles/cv's if necessary, replace the gearbox (the new one will have a bit of a reco before fitting), replace bushes all round, replace the springs in my coilovers to legal ones, check all brake components and replace as necessary too. Then it's time for a re-cert and re-registration for some legal driving ... /shhhhh

Bennoz wrote:Then the second shaft posed more of a problem to get out, the casting / webbing of the gearbox doesn't allow any room to pop the ball joint splitter in to wack the joint out.
So after 2 beers & 3 smokes, I came up with an idea.... wack it out from the drivers side! :D Nothing you can't do with an old curtain rod!

this doesnt work for me? i gave it a go but didnt do anything... then i looked through the driveshaft hole on the drivers side and i could see a diagonal bar just inside, blocking the end of the passenger side drive shaft... if that makes sense

i could take a pic if u dont know what im on about :P

Haha, no worries. How did you end up getting it?

I found some more piccies on my phone from when I did it.

And just for anyones reference, to get the steering rack out, you need to drop the exhaust & cross member! Not to mention have the driveshafts out as well.

at first i was using my biggest prybar but im guessing because of the limited space to get it in, it was more or less prying the driveshaft upwards

swapped to a short one (bout 20 cms) and got it out first go ...

now im off to take out the gearbox :(

Finally started getting back to work on the beast last few days.

Punched all the suspension bushes out from the rear, including the dog bone links & trailing arms pivot bushes.
The old bushes were deat set rooted. The shot dog bone bushes were so bad, they were the culprits giving me the
rocking chair creak everytime I drove into a driveway.

Also, couldn't get hold of any Version R rear lower control arms, so I cut & welded some steel of my own!
Then just touched up some of paintwork back there.

Anyways, here some piccies :)

Got lots more going in over the next week, some realy good stuff :D
- 2 factory VR4 turbos that have been high-flowed into to T3/T4 hybrids
- UE Front chassis brace
- Oil catch can
- 10 row oil cooler & kit
- EBC red stuff pads to suit the big brake kit
- Semi slicks
- Possibly some new rims...

And we're gonna start playing with nos :D Guys at the workshop tuned a legnum to over 270kws at all 4 ( 8O ) and its
been running reliably now for a couple of months... therefore the old 6A13 can cop more juice before teh fear of detonation kicks in.

I want your skills  great job.
If your going to put the nos in you need to lift the back of the car up to get more weight onto the front for traction.
Will the car be ready for the run on the 18th?

Will give a run down on ozvr4. Reliability was my main concern, which was addressed by thicker shafts :)
aza013 wrote:Will the car be ready for the run on the 18th?
Unsure, still need to do the gear linkages. Its still stiff as buggery (no pun )
Delvance wrote:Considered e85 ? On the cards for me down the track :)
Very much so. It will be the cure for my overheating issues, not to mention another 50kws :D

Did a bit more today. Replaced the shot (cooked) gear selector cables.
Yet another job thats up there with timing belts & steering racks... a very high "You F*cking C*nt!" factor.

Heat wrapped the new cable as to prevent the same thing happening. Its too close to the rear turbo & the heat is
expanding & contracting hard on the cable casing making it almost impossible to change gear the next morning.
