All of this still doesn't explain why it isn't cranking though.

The battery is good.
The starter is good
There's 12volts going to the starter from the battery, but there's no 12v coming from the small signal wire to the starter when the ignition is turned (all the way).

I've traced the wire back to the ECU which is mounted on the passenger footwell just above the flare .. Is it an ECU? I thought the ecu is the thing that looks identical to this, but it's under the stereo surround & dash. So we have two ECU's ???

I've been told it could easily be a faulty ignition switch, but if I can't trace the wire back to the switch (because it goes to this ecu) than I cant test it :(

SO, I know it's something that is attached to this wire.
Is more likely to be the ignition switch or the ecu? What else could it be.

It won't crank if the cam sensor isn't plugged in... your wiring doesn't make sense,

Is your crank angle sensor plugged in? And is your cam sensor plugged in?

Yes It will, It just won't fire. I've had both crank and cam angle sensors disconnected and it cranked.

I'm not sure about that sensors, I think they are plugged in and phil could be right about me being a complete stupid c**t  I've probably got both ends under that blue sh*t. I shall check in the morning.

Is the engine control system the ecu? The wire From the starter in black and red, but like I said, I lose it after it goes to the computer thingy

Nope I'm not sure.. Did I bypass it when doing the conversion?

You would have had to. Inhibitor switch prevents you from starting the car when not in park.

Ah ok, I think it was just a matter of joining two wires. I'll try and dig up the DIY conversion write up and see.

Maybe you need to get rid of that silly blue conduit so you can follow the wire.
I bet one end has the extra plug and the other end has the cut wires, in which case...pull it out and throw it to hell and smack yourself on the back of your head!!!

Can I wire a switch to the starter? Like a direct wire from the battery with a switch inbetween? How would I do this.

You can give it a quick hotwire.
Leave the key off for now.

Do this by hand lying under the car, make sure the car is on stands.
Grab a screw driver or wire or simular and contact the starter motor solonoid input terminal (B terminal)(wire from positive battery) to the switching wire (S Terminal)(Wire coming from ignition), when you make contact the starter should engage and run. Don't run it for moar than 10 seconds.
If it works, then turn the key to the run/on position and do it again, see if the engine fires and runs. As soon as the engine runs disconnect the wire.

....and :(D): @ the plug

The new engine wouldn't have the inhibitor rewired lol. That's probably it.

This was it ! But, it was never wired in from when I did the conversion, yet it had been starting fine this whole time 8O strange.

So she's running, but! The belts are squeaking like crazy. Are they too loose or too tight?

Check tension by hand, you'll be able to figure it out pretty quickly.
