The number of P platers that would be able to buy a new car, and that would want to modify said car, would be incredibly small. No manufacturer would waste their R&D time and money on such a niche market.

Nice troll, though :thumright:

As mentioned in the article, would you prefer them to be driving around in a 77kW or a 180kW golf? Because at the moment, they're not allowed the 77kW one because it has a turbo, but the 180kW is in the clear.

Not to mention the fact that most of the turbo'd vehicles in question (VW's, Audi's, generally european designed cars) have VERY stringent ECU's. You can't chop and change them the same way you can something like an N/A EL Falcon, because everything has to meet very strict rules and algorithms created by the ECU. Hell, up until a couple of weeks ago my mitsubishi diesel was throwing limp codes because it thought it was underboosting at idle. And that's a loosely mapped japanese diesel, not a stringent german petrol engineered to near perfection.

The reason this whole thing started was because of a 4cyl 2.0T Falcon. Do you honestly think that a P-Plater is going to be able to AFFORD to pull more power out of a 2.0T 4cyl than a 4.0 6cyl? Just look at how much Bennoz and AJ spend on their vehicles to keep them going. And then think of any other highly-tuned Turbo vehicles, and how much is spent on those because things continue to break. P-platers don't have that kind of money. They will buy the car, love that it makes a stupid "ppsssssSSSSSSSS" sound when they use the loud-pedal, and leave it at that.

No p plater is going to buy a new car that's hard to mod just coz it has a turbo
They would rather buy a higher powered n/a

My fist car ended up having 300hp :D

Then I wrapped it round a parked car. I'd had it 3 months

I think there's something in that for all of us
