Can I drive around my local streets for a week or so before getting fixed ?
It is well worth removing the droplink that the dangling piece is attached to. There is only one bolt that connects the droplink to the strut and it will stop any chance of damage.

You will experience more body roll when cornering, so take it a little easy but otherwise it will be safe to drive.

My local garage quoted me $200 ex japan for a new sway bar. Doesnt sound unreasonable ?

im guessing its the front thats broken?
$200 including stallation is reasonable, given the amount of time taken to install it.
