I replaced the alternator (not for this reason) and it never did it again. I assumed the alternator fixed the problem but I can not confirm that. I know the GPX have a fail safe in them to stop them hitting MIVEC when the alternator is screwed, so maybe it is the same for the gr's
After driving into a bottle shop, you are right in saying you wouldn't change the Alternator, would have changed a few more things for that reason Oh God...
If you have the car in tip light throttle in second passing 4k does it still stutter? Does it do it in park?
Take a vid I reckon.
It does go over 4000rpm some times, i find if you are in 4th gear doing about 70-80 and lightly increase my speed so its on 4000rpm it appears to be okay. It revs freely in park over 4k.
If it revs freely in park above 4K then I would hazard a guess that it's something to do with the speed limit cut, maybe the signal to the ecu is getting screwed (bad gearbox speed sensor?) and it thinks you're doing 180KMH at 4K or the ecu is screwed, just a thought.
Of course depends how it works and i'm not sure (can't remember) so just throwing this in the air.
Maybe it's had a delimit chip fitted that's gone wrong, you could check the wiring at the ecu and see if it's been tampered with (generally fitted between the gearbox speed sensor and ecu.
Sorry I haven't read the whole thread but have you checked for ecu errors? Any gearbox ecu errors?
So for months now people have been telling you to check the error codes.
FFS dude pull your thumb out your ass and check the friggen codes? Problem could have been fixed A YEAR AND 3 MONTHS AGO!!
WTF....
Geezus, kudos to you though for putting up with it for so long. How can you drive a car and not go over 4k revs for over a year :s
