1000km a week? Seriously 1000km in an FTO a week would drive me crazy.
I would get something larger and cruiser.

she is still tossing up between an pre facelife fto gpx and a 02-04 lancer vrx but there around 10 grand for an average example provate sale and their not very sporty i mean they are 17cms higher than the fto, have 4 doors and the same size motor and only puts out 93kw probably mainly because of the cams and not having mivec coz they both are 24valve 2 litre engine and the lancer only has a 5%lower compression ratio
Know nothing about the Lancer but they make 6 cylinder versions???

Bloody Hell, hate to think how much time and money was spent on that Capri. I put 30K into a 1976 Galant in the early 90's, but that must have cost an absolute packet to do.

im doing about that 200kms a day 4 days on 4 off, then cruise around local on the 4 off , not to mention the 200kms i do in the work car a night when im on , but the fto is a cruise to drive, f3 5th gear 100kmph drop it back to 4th mayb once or twice the whole way

yea capri woulda cost heaps to do it up, the guy i brought it off said 65k but i think hr got a bit ripped off in some areas. but yea that front bumper wouldent have been cheap being that it was cutsom made and if u want a paintjob like that its fkn expensive ive heard 10,000 if u prep the car urself.
yea i think the fto is more cumfy than fat ugly family cars anyway coz the seats wrap around you and theres a lot of adjustment in them, also has all the extra little things like climate controll and sunroof to make it more enjoyable and take away a bit of the claustrophobia (im 6 foot 1) but theres a fair bit of room for the driver anyway.
yea i dindt put the ems in either but for that size motor it seemed to do the job real well and still started great with no misses in the motor, ended up hiding it in the dash after i got defected for it by the pigs. coz it alters your air fuel ratio's amongst everything else suposedly it makes the car polute the air more...... lol what a crock its got to do with how its tuned and there in there so the car dosent run rich or lean so to a degree itd b better for the enviroment i think.
cheers

Yeah, I have the 8860 in my GSR/Evo... I have put it in the glovebox.. Heheheh ...
But Sydney is not as bad as Vic when it comes to ECU's ... But they are just as bad when it comes to boost controllers and what not.. That whole "You can't alter the cars performance from the cokpit" ruling... But I also have an AVC-R mounted in my air con vent, which has not caused me grief as yet...

Hey guys, great site, was sent here by another FTO owner (though don't know his username). Didn't want to make a new thread, as my question is somewhat similiar to what this thread deals with.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. Been looking at cars for over a month, decided to get an Integra and saw about 50 of them. An FTO went past, and that was that, so I'm back at scratch looking at FTO's. I had a read of the thread in what to look for when buying an FTO and this one too. I know you guys recommend the higher priced FTO's, 10k+, but is there a primary reason for that? What are the chances of getting a good one for around 6-7k?
Thanks.

WTTC. In a word - slim. It's not that they don't exist but they are either that cheap because the seller wants a fast sale or they are a bomb. More often than not it's the latter. The reason I'm asking over 10k is because my car is in great condition and I'm not in a hurry to sell it.

Bduffman- Then you totally know what I mean, about the long kms, I drive from Bendigo to St Albans 3 times a week for uni so I pretty much live in my car, and trust me I don't want to live in my BMW, I'd rather live in an FTO.
My BMW is sooo uncomfortable the seats are unsupportive and everything is such a stretch. It has a massive wiring problem, so everything keeps going Brenton seems to think it's done the coil this time around, I did 300+ today in Brent88's FTO and I wasn't sore when I got out at all, they are super comfy. I had a look at a couple of them today but wasn't really impressed by either, one guy didn't even know if the timing belt had been changed he said he just got it serviced it, and told mechanic to do whatever had to be done :S

This is what I'm talking about by not saving up that little bit more...
Well i bought an FTO today. She's being delivered on monday, i did get the seller to knock $300 off the price due to a few small issues. It has a small dent in the rear wing, so im taking it to a panel beater in Mel, heater core is buggered but ive bought one from the UK and my better half is shipping it over for me. The rev counter is knackered and so its either sensor, wiring or tacho - not a major issue.

You get what you pay for...

hey, i was in very similar position as you not too long ago... 22 yr old chick looking for the sporty car... followed an fto to work one day and that was it, i had to have one. Was in the same price range as you, with a bit of cash extra to put into it. anyways, ended up buying one off one of the guys on here and am yet to have any problems (have probably just jinxed myself)
goodluck with finding one, dont settle for anything else lol

Brodz- I didn't even know what an FTO was until January, Brenton was looking for a new car after his 89 Magna kicked the bucket for the last time, and he was telling me about it, he got one for himself, and I occasionally drive it and fell in love!!! I love the sound of the engine, and it's so zippy and fun to drive.
AJ- very true, you do get what you pay for, that's why I brought a BMW for 5k and got a big long list of stuff going wrong with it.
Update: so we went to Melbourne today and had a look at 2 FTO's and neither were very interesting. A silver one with full veilside body kit was quite tatty inside, someone had done mods but weren't particular in the way they did them. Tweeters in stupid places stuck there with double sided tape, the armed light for the alarm had been taken from it's original position and the facia had been filled in with foam or something and it was like they used a soldering iron to poke a hole in the dash and just had the light sitting in the hole.
The 2nd was heaps better but he couldn't tell me if the timing belt had been replaced, and the drivers side seat seemed pretty tatty for a car that had only done 108,000kms it seemed to run okay mechanically but it seemed like it would need lots of little things

yea their like all imports and a lot (not all) people buy them to thrash them, depends on what u look for in a car its definatly gonna fail in at least one area for 6-7k and ull be looking at a stocky 94-95 model maybe not even a gpx. theres a link for all the things to look for when buying an fto on this forum and its really comprehensive, some1 direct him to it? coz i forgot where it was.
the bright red ones seem to be the dearest if the paint is in good condition because its probably the colour thats most likley to fade, but i find that a lot of asians buy these cars when they come over here to go to uni and sell them 4 or so years later when they go back so maybe if u wait ull get a nice 1 but if u dont know much about em taking them to a mechanic might b a good $50-$100 well spent
hope this helped

Thanks a lot for your help guys.
I'm in QLD, but there doesnt seem to be much around here. Was looking at
this probably around 7.2k with roof rust fixed. Otherwise probably going to fly down to NSW, buy one, and drive back up, with something like
this.
@Brent88: Thanks for the tip, I did read that thread on what to look for when buying an FTO. If I go higher, I might have to drive without insurance for a few months (poor uni student!).
