Bee's dick hahahaa interesting analogy. Lots of VERY valuable information and thoughts from all you guy. Will be looking at the LE GPX, and another (Vijay's) modified 98 GPX manual on the weekend.

Manofwood I havent given the dealer a call about the white VErsion R. Will do it NOW!! That lads will be the perfect car if it turns out good.

Cheers all!

Called the dealer and asked the WHite manual Version R. Car arrives at the dealer tomorrow morning. I have asked him to send me picccies when it arrives so i can get a look at.

Heres what he said:

Immaculate condition being auction grade 4 (with auction papers)
I dont buy crap
Price is 16000K negotiable with 3 year warranty, 1 year rego, full detail, service.
When car is complied he will make sure the HID (YES!!) are left in, as are all parts as it has come out of Japan.

I have some questions. I assume auction grade 4 is pretty good? so the condition of the car should be good. Does the auction grade refer to mechanical (running gear) and well as appearance? Being a manual Version R theryre bloody hard to find and I am kinda in competition with a guy in Townsville. Dealer said he is sure the guy will leave a deposit when he sees the pics, but would rather deal with a local customer. HAHA. I still have a chance. Assuming I can get my deposit from another dealer back, should i go for this car?

Anyone in the Randwick area interested in going down and having a look? Manofwood?? hehe. Noone has to. Im just quite far away and have exams until Friday.

Comments?

P.S a little info on the car

Auction Grade 4

Auction Grade 4 is as good as it gets. Trust me, having surfed the Japan Auction sites for 6 months before buying my Aero, I know. Never saw a 4.5 or a 5 for an FTO. This is due to age. They have to be perfect to get higher than a 4 and all FTO's will have a scratch or shopping trolley dent somewhere (which means they dont get higher than a 4). Mine was a grade 4 and it is immaculate.

It is a really good indication of the condition of the car IF it actually is a grade 4. If you can get me the chassis info (DE3A.......) and and any other infor you have, it might still be up on the auction sites and we can check against the condition report at auction. Having said this, it is no guarantee against problems.

AJ that was my own thoughts on the being rare thing. Dealer did mention it but yeh ..meh. Version R's are hard to find i reckon, especially low km and manual. Been looking for ages far and wide (with the crap exam marks to prove it), but thanks for the heads up.

Dwayne the chassis number is in the engine bay somewhere yeh? Will see if i can suss the sucker out from the pics the dealer sends me. WOuld like to post the pics here when i get them.

Dont have a clue how to do this though.

did he say when it was arriving in the shop? i'll drop by when it comes in. i think he said sometime this week, tomorrow?
for 16k it better be as good as mine! i paid 14 with 28056km on clock bog stock, not one dent or scratch at all. only thing wrong with it was a hairline fracture in gear surround which you cant even see.
private sale though

Thursday morning but I didnt ask for the exact time. I think by lunchtime it should definately be in. Private sales are a good way to go. But you dont get warranty, free stuff etc..

Would be mad if it did turn out to be a farrkken good example!

Havent been able to find it still listed on the auction sites and still trying to find some past auction figures (that arent in a members only section) to see if it is listed there.

Here is the closest to what you are quoting (from http://auctions.amayama.com/mitsubishi/fto):

20.07.2007 1997 2000 F5 62 white DE3A GP VER-R 6573 4 (pg6)

unfortunately, no chassis on this site, so I cannot confirm

i'll go check it out. he told me the same thing about the guy in townsville, and he saw me rock up in my car (no reason to buy one) so maybe he's legit

I really wish I imported one now. For about $7000 you can get a low kms late model (98 up) version R auction grade 4. Which is about $14 grand delivered. Imagine what you could get for $18000 (which is what I payed earlier this year). Who cares about the wait when your getting a deal like that.

I agree. I got mine for $16000 ($11000 at auction) in the end and there is nothing more expensive than an Aero as far as the FTO goes. Would have paid over 20K to a dealer for it.

This is the reason why the local market for FTO had slumped. Lots of people would go to the option of import one themself, therefore people find it hard to sell their FTO as none of the local one is moving, which result of price dump.

Is a bit of catch 22 isn't it.
