Annoying things, paint on calipers didn't work out for some reason and the guy is having to redo them. Told him I have a deadline! He's been down with the flu though, so I sympathise.

And while I was out getting my sick certificate for work I heard an almighty snap pulling into a driveway.

New and improved two-piece sway bar. :? in a sense it's actually the most fortuitous time for it to have broken given all the other stuff being dropped out of the car. Better now than a week after doing the Evo arms and vR subframe.

Yeah I must imagine the stress point would be fairly consistent. With any luck the Whiteline one will be more up to the task. At least I'll have matching front and rear.

Are you getting it from WILL?

Got mine off him, the GR/GPX type, and it was well packaged.

Calipers back \o/ all that's left is the reco on them. Not a perfect finish, paint was being troublesome, but 100% better than the disintegrating factory finish that they had before.

Before.

Evo VII Enkei's on before tomorrow when it goes for its major front end overhaul @ #TimKnottMotorsport. Completed this task and did not end up being crushed under a vehicle, which I would call a great success.

As usual with anything I try to have done with cars, a mixed-feeling day.

We'll start with the chronologically good news. Tim, being awesome, pulled apart the car and put it back together again. Evo Brembo calipers in, all reconditioned with new seals, fresh EBC redstuff pads, DBA rotors looking shmick. Paint showing questionable longevity via a few chips, but meh.

Image

Rest of it all bolts up nicely. GPvR subframe, Evo 5 alloy arms, hubs, Whiteline 18mm front sway I grabbed off WILL (fantastic timing), and Whiteline HD GPvR/Evo style droplinks. Standard bush with Evo arms gives a little extra castor compared to stock. Could not notice any great deal of track increase, similar to what Bennoz observed with the E3 arms. If there is a difference, it's gotta be stuff all.

Image

aaand then the less-good news... when control arm bushes were replaced last, the nut above subframe in the body got stripped. Tightened enough to stay on, but resulted in a bolt that won't sit as seen below.

Image

A bit frustrating but no biggie, will have to deal with.

Image

Then had to break in new brake gear.
Hauled up f**ken' well, I must say.
Bracket wasn't such a fan.

Image

So we're having a sleepover again.

Image

Tim's relatively optimistic that he should be able to rectify fairly swiftly if there are no more hitches.
oh god no more hitches please for the f**king love of everything holy

And that's news. Tune back in later to see what's broken next. \o/

Does the bolt that goes into control arm bush bracket tighten on the chassis or on the subframe?
Are you able to use a slightly oversize bolt or anything?

Chassis. Subframe is bolted up with the control arm bracket to the chassis as far as I understand. I think Tim was saying it's made a hole that he can see the nut through so he might be able to fish it out and replace it or tap it or something. I don't really know how to explain it cause it's hard to visualise.

Back on the road and drivable but will still need proper attention and some welding.

That's right, you swapped out hubs etc too didn't you?

Will have to see how these GTO ones go first, I'm sure they'll be good enough...
