No thank you Ben. I'm sure they'd like it actually. They were trying to convince me to boost it, run aftermarket cams and oversized valves so I reckon they'd view the mahoosive set of 11s as a gift

I fix cars.

Re: Daniel's Rookie DIY FTO Build!
Finally got a call back from the engine mob.
All machine work $1463 incl. GST
Assembly - $2400 +GST
Plus parts - gasket set, timing belt kit, etc. planning for around $1,000.
Total = ~$5,000 for the engine to be ready to go
About what I was expecting. The assembly is the killer but I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing put it together instead of
me and kill any sort of warranty.
Needs 4 tyres and rego so looking at another 2 grand, $7,000 total.
Then there's the manual gear I bought for $500 and the reco for $500 so another $1,000 has been spent, plus the car itself for $1400 + transport back to Sydney = $1700
Almost 10 grand
Bugger.

Oh f**k it, you'd just drink the savings anyway, moot effort.
Enjoy the solid engine.

Yeah the thing that's killing me is the assembly price. I was originally going to have a go myself but if I screw something up there goes any sort of warranty + 3 grand down the drain.Astron_Boy wrote:Wow.

I'm just looking at the prices for the general stuff, pre-assembly. even some of it seems stupidly high to me.
I havent had any of that stuff done in a while, but damn that's a lot...

What do you call the job that was done to the engine? Like, is there a difference between a rebuild and reconditioning? When I called a mob down here they seemed to indicate it would cost a lot more because parts were rare for the 6A12.
Also, tyres and rego probably shouldn't set you back 2g. I dunno how expensive your rego is, but I just paid for three months and it was sub $200. And tyres were less than $600. Depends what size you need though I suppose.

Re: Daniel's Rookie DIY FTO Build!
Gonna go semi slicks on the front because this car will see track time more than street time.
Rego including CTP will be close to a grand then theres comp insurance on it.
He has sent me a parts list so I'm sourcing my own bits (which is better because I get charged no mark up from them) and I can also shop around for best prices (JK, all from camskill because I'm lazy!)
I'm just calling it a rebuild? There's a difference?

Well, if I wanted new pistons then they only option they could come up with was custom forgies. So that tallies up kinda quickly.Daniel2019 wrote:"Could you please replace everything, sir?"bjk wrote:Ah, right.

Re: Daniel's Rookie DIY FTO Build!
Also, have been told I need Mark 3 bearings (main, bigend, thrust)
Now, one would assume I click on the S3 option, correct? -
Crank (need x4) - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m3b0s9p7636/M ... ec_Engines
Big end (need x6) - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m3b0s9p7570/M ... TO_V6_DE3A
Now with the thrust bearing the only thing camskill has listed is thrust washers - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m3b0s9p48700/ ... st_Washers_
Or am I completely off course here?
...help me
