The internal Wastegate (The Silver one) was welded shut a long time ago to allow only the use of the External Gate. (Black top Turbosmart.. i.e. the brand new one i just put in.)

Yep...
Initally I had a cheap one on there (been on there for 4 years...)
When i put the car back together, it would stay open... so I got it rebuilt... cost me a fair bit too...
put it back on and it still stayed open... (the place that rebuilt it said it was cause its a cheap wastegate and wouldnt refund me)
So i bought a brand new one from 999... only about $200 but was new with warranty so i thought it should fix it...
put it on and same thing... Rang Mike Vine and he said was prob cause its a cheap wastegate..
So I just bought this whiz bang Turbosmart Ultragate....
Same thing...
So what im thinking is I've fucked up somewhere in putting the car back together... and there is a vacuum above the diaphram, causing it to open the valve and vent exhaust.
Im hoping this arvo when I kick it over, the new vacuum lines should fix it.

Not sure but could it be set up the wrong way? ie. Back to front (in to the out and out to the in
)
I'm just chucking it out there.

Re: Sam's Turbo Setup progress **FINISHED INSTALL** pics
as far as my understanding of wastegates, boost, etc...
This is how the waste gate works off boost and under boost..
Left is before 7psi, right is after...

So this is what the lines should be doing..
Off boost:

Under boost:

Feel free to correct my dodgy ms paint diagrams though

Re: Sam's Turbo Setup progress **FINISHED INSTALL** pics
Hey ben,
Reckon you could tell me where you're getting your vacuum from? although it might be different on the 6a13...
In particular the Vacuum feed for the ECU.
I've fixed the wastegate issue... seemed to be my vacuum lines.. So now it drives great, until I go to hit boost and it coughs and splutters..
My theory is, the Microtech manual says the ECU Vac feed should be attached to a constant vacuum source after the intake butterfly.
NOw mine is currently hooked up where you see FPR Direct Line in the above pic. This seems to give an accurate vacuum reading while off boost, however this line would become pressurised once the turbo starts coming on boost, perhaps this is messing with the ECU, being that its meant to have a CONSTANT vacuum (they stated how important that was especially for turbo cars.)..
any thoughts?

Yeah I was about to say, the only vac lines that should be connected to the intake before the TB would be for gauges.
All of my vac lines are connected after the TB & on the plenum.

Yeh, but I use an external Gate and a solenoid Boost controller... It says to have that all connected via there as well..
