What, you mean he half arsed it. Normally he totals the whole car.No, that just proves Lawso knows how to kill a gearbox

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
Not really an update of any sort, but just funnelling the mental anguish of wheel and tyre window shopping into an online receptacle.
Because I'm unusual and like to make things unusually difficult for myself, I have for some reason concluded that not just any set of aftermarket rims will do. Fundamental problems:
1) I discovered concave & flatter faces with dish, and now I MUST HAVE.
2) I really want to run 18s.
3) I still want 40+ profile tyres.
4) I don't have the moolah to do coilovers and wheels at the same time. (and despite having more room to move with coilovers, they are considerably more expensive, and I don't know if I want the stiffness either (I had no idea stock springs rates were so small in comparison, although I don't know what rates mine are))
Also is the bizarre fact that it is not considerably more expensive to buy 18 inch tyres than it is 17 inch. In fact some 17s are more expensive than the 18s. (through Tempe at least, but they're helpful enough to show prices instead of me waiting days for quote replies back.)
Example of difference between the convex and slightly concave. Was set on SSR type Fs for a while, but was tempted by the Enkei RPF1s when I saw them pretty cheap on ebay.

So far, the most pressing obstacle is the fact that the Type F and RPF1 only go concave from 9 inch wide and up. The other is offset, but mostly for the 18s. The 17s of the RPF1s have a nice +22, like so.

But the 18x9 is only available in +35, and I don't wanna fork out a few hundred for spacers. The other option is bumping up to 18x9.5, where the offset is +15.

But that feels a little ambitious, knowing the hassles that silverGPX has gone through, given that the setup is very similar (add 10mm tyre and take 5mm offset) and he had the advantage of less strut to clear with coilovers.
Since it's a forum and all, what do people reckon? Should I stick with the 17x9 RPF1s? Uber wide 18s? Disregard concave and run more easily fittable widths? Join the circus? Dance a jig? Become a philosopher?

I do too, but it doesn't have the dishiness of the RPF1.PHIL069 wrote:I likebjk wrote:Hmm, or maybe the RP03... Comes in 18x9 +18
Too hard.Technikhaus wrote:Oh gosh, don't get me looking at rims now.... please!

If only it were cheaper to get fully custom ones made up, it would be so much easier. I have too many priorities that are all vying for no. 1 on the list.
That being said, I worry about the RPF1 9.5 wide with +15, but if you actually look at it, it's barely over a centimetre wider than the RP03, and only 3mm lower in offset, which is like, nothing.
ed: almost identical.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
Found out one of the limitations of willtheyfit. It calculates wheel poke and inset, but not tyre.
Comparison to what Bennoz was running on the fronts at one point on the left, and to stock on the right...

Provided the extra 2cm of wheel poke doesn't interfere with the guard, maybe I'll get away with it.

Well, importantly, although I technically have enough money now, I'll be waiting till tax return to see how much I get back. Which means that I've got a while yet to figure out what will hypothetically fit before I feel inclined to pick something.Bennoz wrote:You're never actually going to get rims are you bjk? I will admit I've been somewhat dependent on that little simulator. But even though it's not as accurate as getting an actual tyre on an actual rim on an actual car and going, "Well, f**k, this doesn't work", it's a better indication than just numbers.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
And at the end of the day he saith, damn $2500-2700 is a lot to be spending just on rims, tyres and rolled guards to fit them. That's like a UAS kit, extractors, new shocks and pillowball mounts + more. And importantly I don't have to buy those at the same time. I can't tell whether it's indecision or some kind of common sense. Perhaps it's just prioritising.

Just go to a tyre shop and get their opinion.

Re: BJK's '95 GPX
The deed is done, well, partly anyway.
Have sent through payment for a set of Enkei RPF1's in 17x9 +22. $1150 delivered. Have to wait a little while as they only have three in stock currently, but it'll give me time to make my bank balance more respectable. Also found a place in Adelaide that'll roll all four guards for $200.
I expect my parents to be disappointed.

I laugh now, but it's 99.9% probably the truth. If I post pictures on facebook when I get them, you can be sure I'll be hiding it from my brothers, haha.Astron_Boy wrote:bjk wrote:I expect my parents to be disappointed.
I'm calling this "pre-emptive tax return spending". The sensible part of my brain says that since I'm spending this money now, I won't spend the money I get later. I consider that scenario a little unlikely...
