The clutch plate is a 4 puck ceramic and the pressure plate is the originlal one reconned and uprated by 40% holds ok to 500 ftlb of torque then will slip under normal driving there is no slip it is only under full boost and high torque that it slipped how ever with my setup there was no point keeping it so it is for sale. It has done aproximately 1000 Kms and is still in good condition.

Hey dannyboy I cam to the conclusion that buying small bolt on parts to produce more power in my car is a waste of money if i have the intention of fitting the 6a13tt motor later on, so i though why not give it a go now :p
I was wondering if you could give me a hand and answer a few questions about the conversion.
What parts are needed on top of the engine it self ?
How much is a reasable price for the engine ?
Did your stock gearbox bolt on to the engine fine ?
The 2 possible problems dropping the engine in are the rear turbo and alternator, and the pipping on top of the engine, i was going to get new pipes going to the front with an intercooler, but what do you reccomend I do about the rear turbo and alternator ? just bash the firewall back hehehe
Do you reccomend any sort of aftermarket ecu to be used with the engine ?
I have been going through est figures with my mechanic, (my mechanic is a good mate of mine and knows most mitsubishi engines inside out) Basicly would I be looking at around 3k for the engine, 1k for wiring up the electrics, 1k for the new intercooler and new pipes, and another 1000 for the ecu and tunning ? so would 6-7k be good budget ?
otherwise i will try sell my car and get a tt supra
Oh also if anyone wants to buy my current engine, 1k, i will pull it apart and find whats been worked and try sell it
Thanks in advanced dannyboy

If I were you GAV, I would sell the FTO and go the TT Supra. But if you're like Danny who obviously has the passion for building cars, then an FTO would be a unique choice.

But the Supra is already a good base to build upon. You would be spoilt for choices in terms of performance parts!!

How much does a 1997 VVTi RZ go for these days?

yes the stock gearbox bolts straight on to the 6A13 engine. I went single turbo which adds a lot more cost . I used the wolf 3D computer and had it completly rewired. If you keep it twin turbo you would be best to get custom made exhaust manifolds, and also get the intercooler plumbing custom made. If you can get a 6a13 for 3 grand you would be doing well, the alternator was no problem. You also will need to strengthen the clutch if you stick with the original twin turbo you should be able to get your standard clutch pressure plate strengthened and a new clutch plate made it cost me 600 AUD but that was mates rates. It holds ok untill it gets to over 500 Ft Lb of torque. Then there is the blow off valve, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, dump pipe and exhaust, oil catch can, fuel pump, boost gauge, boost controler,. I would be thinking closer to 10 grand, also depends what sort of job you want, do you want silicone hoses and anodised fuel lines, some things you could get away with out replacing, like exhaust and fuel pump, but it is better to do it properly the first time then it is to pay for some things twice. Its the little things that add up.

I would be surprised if you can get the engine for less than 4 grand, but they might be coming more available now as it took me over six months to find my first one.

Also with a TT supra you will still need to spend money on that if you want to have a fast TT supra

I did the FTO because i reckon it is the sexiest looking jap car out of them all. But it just didnt quite have enough power for me

hehe what would be enough power 4 u ?
I think that anything over 115kw at the wheels is too much on a fwd, its soo difficult to keep traction as it is atm. which is making me lean toward the tt supra. I like the idea of rwd the only thing is i am debating between getting a new 97+ model or an old 93 aero top auto :(
If it will cost around 10k for that sort of project i might be best with the supra, thing is ftos are soo damn hard to sell these days ! I thought it would be easy to sell, especially the fact that mine is a rare colour and has been worked internally.
oh well i might just get it fixed up and advertise it in the papers

you'll be looking at $45K+ for a decent example.

Hmm...I think the prices are fluctuating too much these days for imports.
Could do better than $45gs though I reckon.

There was a late 1997 TT RZ (Tiptronic), less than 45,000kms, leather interior, private sale for $38000 here in Sydney. Bit of bargaining, get it down to $36,000+. I'm thinking that's not a bad buy if everything is kosher.

bad news on the twin plate

the drive shaft only engages with one plate need drive shaft another 20 mm longer

might give the exedy heavy duty clutch a try as a temporary messure to get it back on the road.

hey mikey would you have a part number and a clamping force for the exedy one that you put in and how does it drive.

Thanks for the details the other night Mikey sorry i couldnt talk long but you called at a bad time.

The clutch expert seems to think we can still get this twin plate to work he is going to combine two differant brands of twin plate and hopefully will have it done soon.

I was hoping to take it down the strip by now, hopefully will be able to post some times during november,

Stay tuned hoping to get into the 12s

so is this gonna be the same setup as the 1st engine, or are you building a race engine instead? ...and how much did the forgies cost you?

...and can i have the spare one (mate's rates)? hehehe!

same setup as first engine at the moment.

I am waiting for the the custom made forged JE pistons with ceramic coating top and side skirt and Pauter rods to be made then will build a race engine using the engine with the melted pistons.

Once the new engine is built and in the car you can buy this engine for what it cost me ( if it is in good condition still ) hehehe.

The forgies are costing me 3200 AUD plus taxes and shipping so should be about 3750 AUD per set
