As for the money for your engagement ring........don't know if you're insurance will let you do this but I heard some do.
Buy back the wreck and sell off the parts. Maybe you could make up all the money you spent on excess and stuff like that?

if the car is written off then you ont see the car again. If you have anything in it you need to rey and get it out before but it might be too late. I have been able to go visit the car where it was being stored and grab anything i want out of it before....
anyway it sux...just a fuked situation, it happens to everyone. Don't beat yourself up over it...

but i think if he got hit at the back he would have a pretty good chance to prove that it was the other guy that was fault as he was rear ended and was fully merged

moral of the story, dont be nice and just swirv into the lane.
JK JK
but seriously though, being nice and resposible on the road really doesnt pay off, so it seems...
got hit by an ambo because the idiot in front of me wont give me room to move (only a scratch but it was in mummy's 4 week old camery)
got caught doing "123" (which was bull cos it was in mum's new car and the speed cruise was set to 110) on the M1 (limit is 100) at 5:30am when there were not another car to be seen (i was driving a friend to work and she was late)
had a drunk reverse his car into my mates car while at the servo
had the mirror torn off my old work horse when a dik decided he was going to squeeze in
mean while i know ppl that speed along at 180 down the high way and stuff and never lost their lisence
but now that i've developed a healthy case of road rage and learnt where the happy peddle is: nothing, not even a RBT. go figure

f*&^ing justice system my ass.
sorry that i went off track and started talking about myself again lol.
so you heard from the insurance company yet? hope its not a write off, but i guess if it is they will let you take what u need off the car so just go with a tool set, a couple of mates and a big old truck to take everything you can out (lights, mirror, steering wheel, centre consol, head unit, sound, door handles, switchs, wheels, seats, brakes, engine lol, anything that u can unbolt and take. anything at all!! lol)
seriously, if your centre concol is still intact, take it out, u know how hard it is to find one thats not in pieces? lol

umm... you can't really do that when you're insured. if i took off anything from the car it would void the insurance policy and i would get nothing. once a car is deemed to be unrepairable for the amount it is paid for it becomes the insurance co's property. i do have first dibs on buying the wreck though. if i can get enough interest for parts i would consider buying it and selling the parts. anyone interested? i'll set a new post with details...
i visited the repairer this morning before work. he's going to tell the insurance co that it's a write off coz it'll cost more than im insured for to fix it.

i think he already said that he can buy it back lol
actually i was thinking, you know technically... the car is still safe and soudn to drive (just by looking at the pics providing that it didnt do any mechanical dmg), so basically... if u r desperate for the ring then dont buy a new car lol JK JK (stuff the girl get the car lol JK again)
he can basically sell every single part of that car except the driverside pannels, and quite frankly i think most minor car park accidents happen to the passenger side, so it should be worth it to buy it back... unless the insurance company want something stupid like $16k for it lol
well thats my 2 cents anyway
