What you need to keep in mind is the battery is next to the TB area so just the bend to fit there

Ok just to some it up for you, you won't get a "power boost" from changing the air filter. I mean you'll get a tiny tiny amount which is not even worth mentioning, it's all about the piping, replace your stock pipe - this is where the difference stands.

I have a HKS filter and I love it, it just depends on what you find more reputable. everybody has different choices and all 3 different types mentioned are great filters, just pick one (just don't pick the cheap-o one for $34).

As far as the noise goes, you can hear it pretty much straight away when u start the car, and also when u accelerate (doesn't matter what gear your on, you'll notice it right away)

Also, what you said before about the engine bay not having enough room - that doesn't make a difference, you're replacing the stock intake pipe, not adding 2 pod filters :P There's plenty of room to fit the right sized pipe

oh, thanks.. it is quite comprehensive summary... Love that.. will definitely get a reputable filter and air intake hose replaced..

but i got one more question... erm, like i have mentioned, last time i went to repco and fixed some 30 bucks cheap stuff onto the hose but when i start the car, i hear no difference at all.. Could it be due to 1)cheap air filter,or 2)aftermarket exhaust replaced??

Cos all i could hear is the cool exhaust sound which i love it so much...

If I get my filter replaced with the air intake pipe, do i really get to hear the sound at the moment i start the engine?

Thanks much!!!

sorry, when before I said you can hear it straight away, I thought you already had a bigger exhaust, if you just have the stock exhaust pipe then I don't think the difference is that noticable.

The piping is more for a power gain, if you want the sound as well then get your hands on a 2.5inch cannon 8) (don't go any bigger though)

Not at all! Just have to keep the air sensor in line with the pipe:

wats the attachment you got that bolts onto the sensor so you can fit the pod.....did you make that yourself?

I made it. Was just a bit of 3 inch pipe welded to a flat section (with a hole cut out.)

You can buy adaptors like this from most hi spec filter retailers. Or you can make on yourself - Max (mxysxy) made one from a plumbing fitting from bunnings:

Although I think the pics are gone.....

ok, i made the adapter and installed a K&N pod just then and i guess nothings gone wrong as the car started.....one thing though, is it suppose to make a boost sorta sound when you gas it? I havent got a leak have i?

also...wheres the best place for the induction hose to go into...the mouth or the side? atm i'm just using the the original fto intake pipe and it feeds into the mouth

also....is it a good idea to use the original fto housing (bottom half) to surround the pod? cos i got mine to fit and its okay for now?

hey guys.. this is what i have done to my car...
well, is it looking weird?? well i think it looks a bit weird but sort of cute since the pipe is so short...

by the way, how do i remove the "original air box"??

and also, i find two small "tubes" coming out from the pipe.. does it need to be connected?? what will happen if i leave it like this? Cos just now I drove it around without connecting anything on it...

mate your gonna need some protection in the engine bay. your basically just sucking up hot air.

Add a new path from the grill also using some 3" flex pipe..get more cold aie into the general area if u don't want to cover it up.

hmmm... how do I get it protected? I find the pipe a bit too short, and it makes the filter near to the engine... is there any cheap long pipe available anywhere??

and also, i havent got the original air box out yet... its still stucked there... the nuts are pretty firm i cant unscrew them...

and also as i mentioned the tubes coming out from the pipe before.. do i need to get it connected to the engine?? I guess its for air flow sensor right?? have been driving short distances without connecting it... seems to be alright... but will still seek professional advice here...

here is one cheap option I adopted from FTO388...I tried this and it worked really well...I have a box under all that stuff also...

Its only that reflectivesunscreen material...cut it into the shape you want to give you some protection and help direct the air from the stock pipe...

spent few hours fixing the filter and pipe... and here it goes... 8)

quite satisfy with my own work.. although its not yet perfect...

i've extended the pipe which moves the filter pod further away from the engine, and i make it going down towards the ground as it shows a lot of space there and i think cold air rises through there... and also, i think "cold air" is heavier and they sink lower to the ground so the lower you get the colder it is
anyway that's just one of my crap reason...

by the way, what do you guys think??

cheerS :D

great...

now run a 3" pipe from the front grill. When u do it you will see it will pop out right under your pod...which will be perfect.

Still box it up.

when u are driving around during hot summer days (or in queensland's case, 11months out of 12)...
the heat both radiates (heat already absorbed from the sun) and bounces (heat from the sun that's not being absorbed) off the road so by putting your pod really low u r effectively sucking in warmer air than say... having it sit at the normal height near the grill. u can really tell the difference in temp between 15cm up from the road compared to 35cm up, at sun down and the next few hrs after sun down.

so just keep that in mind. :)

hmmm, really??? then i think i'll just drive slow during summers :P

by the way, after taking out the stock air box and clean out the area, i find out that there's actually quite a large space between the stock filter and the engine... hmmm, much bigger than i thought before.. and the space is straight from top of bonnet to the ground... maybe its a good space to fit a turbo... haha, that's what i was thinking when i was doing the job...

by the way... hmm, would like to self-made a box for the filter but seems like... have no idea of how to get the box firm and stable... must have to put something to hold it as a box right? or else it will collapse when there's some sort of vacuum when the air is being sucked into the engine...

what's the best material with lowest price?? any comment?
