Anyway I'm not sure why you are still debating this issue...FTOs are far better than the 2 other mentioned in terms of looks and performance...its a simple choice really.

I've had the car 4 years and recently reconditioned my alternator. What problems are there with the stepper motor?

Um, ok, just to add to the decision.

My fto has a few mods, full exhaust, and CAI, and it pulls ~125 something kw at the wheels, so it's def not slow!

With a good exhaust system like Blitz, (~$550) you car will sound the best out there, not kidding, the FTO exhaust is one unique sound.

I also do track work see a fair bit of cars out there, and i gurantee you with the same driver the FTO will leave the other two cars behind.

Like i said, the only competitor in the class and budget of an FTO is the Integra TypeR, DC2R.

So If you want a run aroudn car that is also quick, go for the FTO.
Investigare insurance first, as i have seen/heard of a few instances where people wanted to to get FTO's and didn't because of the higher insurance costs.

Hope that helps, if you don't buy the cheapest FTO out there, and do a full inspection before you buy, you should have your self a reliable car.

And this is unbiased advice too.

The calibra looks great, but dated, and what performance is there?
Celica looks great too I think but again it's just a camry engine, nothing performance wise.

FTO has a beautiful engine, beatiful outside, great interior...

ok I'll throw a spanner in the works here...... I own a calibra turbo but my missus use to own a FTO GPX so have feelings for both

sabih wants a auto so that would severly limit him to a FTO or a V6 calibra as a auto celica aint even worth looking at...

now being that he doesnt want to do much racing etc I would say the calibra simply because its a luxo bargeish engine designed for cruising its actually a SAAB engine. where as the GPX has mivec and thats where the real power is. but if you like the fact of having fun and reving ya engine a lot get the FTO, the tip transmission does have its advantages too over the opel standard box.

as for looks.. if you want more looks go the FTO.. it is out there and is essentially more modern than the calibra, even though they are doing well considering it is a 16YO design!.

Space well if you carry more than 1 passenger you will have to get the calibra, was designed by fat germans so is enough room to sit in the back comfortably. sorry guys but the rear of the FTO is an absolute joke unless you are 4ft tall with no legs. altho boot space in both is impressive being coupes.

As for servicing etc the calibra as does the FTO will cost a lot if something goes drastically wrong being an east west V6.

so after all of that I reckon its down to which 1 you like the look of best or if you are specifically want something that the others dont have.

Interior wise also its much the same.. the FTO seats are nice, the cali has factory recaros fitted which are comfortable too. and as for the finish they are much the same!

so my view is
Calibra if you want a luxoish car that still looks nice with a nice smooth engine and can carry passengers.
FTO if you want something a bit more sporty/modern/including the looks but no passengers..
