with the new A -league, this qualification is the best thing for oz soccer.
and shwarzzer, he is such a long lanky bastard that if he picks the side you shoot too, you have to be lucky to get it past him.
if the aussies are to have any chance of not being humiliated against the worlds best they will have to improve on these fronts. dead balls/free kicks. uruguay is a poor team by world standard, yet everytime they had a free kick within range they were dangerous. but the aussie free kick, time and time again passes too close to the keeper, which a pro keeper will ran out and snatch everytime!
also, corners!!! the aussie corner is either dropping toooo short, or toooo long. the penelty spot is the target, in the mass of bodies. all it needs to do is fall to the floor and the keeper can't see where its going through the forest of legs. or you can curve it in to the goal line and have a mash of bodies bundle it in with the keeper and all. uruguay was dangerous every corner, by using this tactic.
my 2 cents as a former player of 14 years, representing my region (western) and state twice. (Victoria)
also, its common knowledge that at a corner, a man stands by the front post of the goal, and another by the back post. if it falls beyond the keepers reach, those two players charge out with momentum and take out the target. uruguay scored over in uruguay by exploiting this mistake in the aussie defence, and for memory they very nearly did it again here.
i think i lost 10 years of my life watching that bloody game. LMAO but i am very happy with the result

2 times in the space of about 5 mins, they had 2 free headers from corners, (one was offside from memory) the only real belmish, to an almost perfect performance by our boys, id say.If harry fires during the world cup were in with a chance, the difference he made was huge.
Also my 2 cents on
Mark Viduka performance from the penalty spot was shocking i thought, for one the best strickers that has ever come out of this country, (he's probably been kicking a soccer ball since he was 2) the way he ran in to take that penalty, he actually looked uncoordinated. I can forgive baggio for his miss years ago at least he looked like a soccer player when he did that, Honestly, Viduka looked liked he had never had a spot kick in his life (or played soccer for that fact). If u look at the way all the other boys ran in to take it kewel, aloisi, vidma you'll know what im talking about.

I am most envious of u wildflower, i was thinking whilst watching the game and at the conclusion, that would have to be (in my life) one sporting event that i would have loved to witness in person.
I will never forget it and in a world full with sh*t these days, which seems to be coming closer and closer to the most beautiful country in the world, it is a symbol of the aussie spirit and of the happy times we can share together.

And an added bonus, we celebrated without incident or any unsavoury behavour... Pity the same couldnt be said for a couple of other teams (no names) who had a brawl in the tunnel at full time! Prats!
