however i do have the same problem !!....with my GPX 95
im a noob with the car..i only just got in to the sports car circle.

my problems are:
lossing petrol ( i need to calculate the amount im using then poster it again..)

have the smoke and the smell of petrol

im the morning when i start the engin the ravs is high ( at about 2500 r/m ) and it will not go down for a long time....

and i just checked the coolant level, i think its very low. where should it be up to ? ? ? ? ?

what is " running rich" means ?

and where is a good car workshop to go for FTO in East Melbourne

please guys i need some of your answer....
thank u !!
The amount of petrol your car consumes depends on your driving style. If your a great fan of Mr Mivec then you'll tend to burn more fuel. Also it's pretty hard to calculate your fuel usage. It really depends on your driving environment. Driving on highways tend to use less fuel than driving through the city, that because you tend to waste fuel while your engine is idling at the lights.

Smoke when you start your car up is normal. The reason why your engine revs high when you start it is because your engine isn't warm yet. You'll notices that your revs will fall as your engine warms up.

Coolant levels should be somewhere between the min and max on the coolant tank. Your radiator should be completely filled with coolant.

Running rich means that your fuel ratio is higher than your oxygen ratio.

Hmm... 2500rpm for a "long time" is a little unusual. This could be the ISC (Idle Speed Controller) on the way out. Also known as the "stepper motor". It's a small air bypass unit on the throttle body, and the original factory-fitted units weren't all that good.

Another symptom of a faulty ISC is stalling... not running when cold without some throttle pedal, etc.

Do the revs come back down to around 700 or 800rpm once it's warm? What does it normally idle at once it's all warmed up?

Everyones saying how their car revs high on startup, mine will rev to 2000 or so and drop straight away and i actually have to have it in neutral and rev the car my self or it will stall on me, after about 4-5mins the car is fine and will idle on its own, but yeh i think i have to adjust where my car idles i think, can anyone direct me to how thats done?

You can adjust your idle speed by adjusting the screw next to the throtle body on the passenger side. It should be covered by a little black piece of plastic. If that fails then your stepper motor is screwed :(
