im a teenager and i never have any fuel...
im always riding on "E" and the most ive ever had is half a tank
from my experience the light comes on, after the same length as another bar, past "E"
but what ive noticed is the car is very sluggish when the light comes on

that would be the fuel deposits clogging up your injectors 8O

FYI: Plastic is a bi-product of petrol descovered in WW2 by the germans makin aircraft fuel

anyway....

on another note, i put 25 litres of fuel in my car today... it was sitting exactly on the E when i filled it up and now its on...

so that might give you an idea how much further you can go, 10L warning light maybe?

8O 134,5xx kms?!

means my car should last at least 50,000more km

what do people recommend i clean my fuel lines and injectors with?
because i think running on the light a lot has really affected the cars performance

Would that be why my oil is so dirty every change (5,000 kms) im talking absolutly filthy and smells like fuel
(I am also always on E because i cant seem to seal the top of my petrol tank and it leaks a little when i fill and cornenr hard)

oh yeah my car wasnt performing very well at all (backfiring slightly under heavy load) and i got the injectors fully serviced and it made a world of difference

Sounds exactly what your problem is...
and if your fuel tank isnt sealing properly buy a new petrol cap 8O i even think someone is selling 1 in these forums somewhere... or... fill it up till the pump says full, should still be enough room in your tank for another 3/4 litres, shouldnt tip out then.

BACKFIRING!
cant think why cleaning the injectors would stop it backfiring, is more likely to be an exhaust problem?

but i may be wrong.

it wasnt a backfire like you hear from leaded cars, it was more like an induction noise, anyways with the injectors serviced the problems gone, my mechanic said he had seen it before on other mitsus.
I might have to try that caltext stuff above to clean out my fuel tank

Just as a matter of interest...

Rev limit second gear:

normal octane fuel: 118kmph
98 Octane fuel: 130kmph

I was rather shocked by the difference, ill be sticking to 98 from now on.

and yes... this was on my own private dragstrip  what with road laws not exceding 100kph

I don't get that... that doesn't make sense :?

yeah it does... with normal unleaded fuel the rev limit in second gear hits at 112kmph and with "premium" unleaded it hits the rev limit at 130kmph...

whats not to understand? 8O

How long had the engine been running for before you did both tests?

hmmmm
so your tellin us that the rev limit differed by about 10% on regular unleaded....
ie normally 8200, instead it limited to 7400ish....

thats quite perplexing and unlikely(but im no expert)

WTF!!!! NO

what i mean is the maximum speed of second gear with regular fuel was 112kmph and with premium the max speed of second gear is 130kmph... how the hell is this confusing??? 8O

thinking about this logically, if the revlimit was not to change, then under the same conditions(ie head wind, up hill/down hill) then how could the speed change???????

engine speed=same(ie redline 8200rpm)
gear ratio=fixed(whatever it is)
therefore end speed at the tyre=same

am i alone in this reasoning?

i think i'd just rather periodically pull out the fuel pump and replace the filter on it...

hmmmm ill have to have e a look at it... its definatly faster in second gear with premium fuel, revs still about 8500, was just a glance and i noticed the speed.

hmmmm fuel filter.... theres an idea... after 135000 ks now :D might be worth a clean.

theres no way you can gain extra speed in second gear because its running on premium!

At rev limit you pushing it to the limit diff ratio and gear ratio wise, so even if you had a 500KW monster under the bonnet the top speed in second would still be the same!
