There's a guy who's using the AR1s on a 323 SP20 hatch he bought for a track hack. Basically stock and he is taking home quite a few wins in his class so they must be pretty decent.

That's a good point too, I'll likely get whatever is cheapest between AD08 and R888 when the time comes (if it does...). Luckily Winton is a fairly 'technical' track so straight line speed isn't a huge factor. straight along the pits is a bit annoying for the FTO, 3rd gear redlines just a pinch before I want to be on the brakes.spetz wrote: ↑Tue May 15, 2018 11:42 pm I use Nankgang AR1s on my car for the track but have nothing to compare them to.
Next I will go R888R and after that most likely A050.
I run 15" wheels and I know the A050s are grippier but the R888R comes in 225/45/15 whereas the Advans will need to be 205/50/15.
Not sure which will ultimately grip better though.
As for slicks I believe they heat cycle really poorly hence even for track wheels their usable lifespan is just too cost prohibitive

@bjk,
From the reviews I've read the AR1s seem to be on par to slightly worse than R888R however considerably cheaper.
I paid $150 per corner which was the main selling point for me especially seeing as I had never been to a track before
@mezje,
Power still makes a lot of time at Winton. My MIVEC stopped worked due to an alternator issue and my times dropped by about 3-4 seconds.
As for the main straight I am well into 4th however I do have smaller wheels and a 4.625FD.
The fastest I've been at Winton was 175km/h which I think isn't bad for an NA car

That's interesting, I only hit 150kmh down the straight, can't see how I'd reach 175 down there.spetz wrote: ↑Wed May 16, 2018 11:47 pm @bjk,

I can definitely use the brakes more often and more aggressively. It's hard because I want to keep momentum and the revs up but also want to brake late and turn in hard, tricky to wrap my head around but I definitely felt a big improvement from last time in my driving and it showed in the times.
For now it is probably best for me to just get a second set of wheels and chuck on some semis and see how I like it from there before I go dropping cash on a track car.
Too many options... Not even sure what cars I want to look at. Evo 6 or R33 are looking good at the moment.
- Store fto, get new daily/track car (RWD/AWD turbo)
- Track fto, get new daily, something practical and boosted
- BUY A HONDA AND CHUCK A K SERIES IN

Re: Winton 12/05/18 Report
All of those are enticing options.
I too would really like to K swap a Civic or something but it's just not worth the effort/money as that's Evo 6 money.
I've been thinking of a GT86 as a track only car but the power output...
And a GT86 + turbo is close to 30k which isn't worth it.
I'd keep tracking the FTO and eventually upgrade track cars if you get really into it

I think we would go B18 or something out of a GSI first as theyre dirt cheap and a mates done similar and got very around 1:40 in a little EF.spetz wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 5:22 pm All of those are enticing options.

Then if we really like it drop cash and get a K series, everything would be done at home and K series aren't too expensive.
Boost is certainly calling though

Re: Winton 12/05/18 Report
A base K series isn't expensive but if you go for a Type R K20 and 6 speed LSD transmission things do get expensive.
Not to mention all the parts you need to make it work (shifter base, cables, mounts, wiring, driveshafts etc etc) add up.
A K swapped EG or EK would be great fun but as mentioned that's Evo 6 money

Yeah it is a hard choice but I have time to think, for now I like driving the FTO a lot and I think that's all that matters.
