It's your throttle body sensor on the side of the throttle body.

Was this removed, changed or adjusted?

I had a similar problem (jumping revs) when I changed to the 65mm throttle body, can't remember exactly what the issue was though.

I only touched the throttle body senser after I already had the problem, before that it stayed untouched on the throttle body.

I adjusted it to see if this fixed the problem but to no success. It was something that Tim (VipFTO) suggested to try

If this is out of adjustment it will hunt as you've described. I don't recall mine running at 3-4K rpm though.

Did you actually remove it or just loosen and adjust? And is it firmly plugged in?

Just loosened and adjusted either way to see if it changed. Every plug has been firmly plugged back in that I can feel.

It's just strange :?

I believe there is 4 vacuum hoses to the intake/throttle body. The broken lines in the pic shows it is behind/under the part.

Just remembered, the problem I was having was that we installed a modified bored out 63mm throttle body. The butterfly on this throttle body didn't seal properly, and hence idled high and then began to 'hunt'. I was able to remote the 'hunting' by adjusting this sensor, but this wasn't the problem, the poorly sealed butterfly was.

So sorry for sending you off on a wild goose chase with the sensor  This is not your problem

Go back a few posts. Somewhere somehow you are getting air into the intake plenum where you shouldn't be. :D

Were the intake manifold and throttle body gaskets damaged at all?
Can you hear a whistling noise when the engine is running?

Someone buy this man a drink for me. Where hose number 2 leads back into the lefthand side of the engine bay, wasn't connected properly, that was the problem.

Running properly now, had to change the idle down from just over 1k but down to where it should be, so I think were in the clear ;)

That picture actually helped heaps, cheers

I'm pretty careful with my gaskets, I woulda picked up a damaged gasket or gasket leak straight away :D

Haha, I was looking at everything connected to the intake manifold while neglecting to look at where all those lead to haha.

So in essence i was correct THEY WERE all connected to the intake manifold
