Getting enough tension is the issue without a proper tool. That's when things go wrong.

Last time I just adjusted the position of the tensioner by hand, without any pliers. There is not that much force being applied to it and it wasn't too hard to torque up the bolt while holding it in place. The hydraulic tensioner will adjust and take up the slack if need be.
I used the following 'before' photo as a reference and tried to get as close to it as possible when reassembling.
This was however done with the engine out of the car. It may be a bit more difficult with the engine remaining inside the car.

The problem is not pushing but twisting the tensioner. I didn't have an issue I used my tensioner tool which took a minute to make and used my power impact ratchet to tighten the bolt which is an advantage as the impact doesnt change put stupid forces on the belt while tightening.
That above picture looks like the tension is way off. The tensioner bracket seems to be resting too close to the hydraulic tensioner.
When I tensioned my belt to spec there was at least another third of a turn compared to the above pic because a remember the holes!

Do you reckon this fits?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-T ... 3a6d6a71ee
Sure I could make something or use circlip pliers as suggested but these must make it easier - if it fits, quite a bit cheaper than camskill and i'm sure a lot cheaper than mitsi.
I've contacted the seller asking for the distance between the pins and the diameter of them, anyone got an old pulley handy that could measure for me so I can make sure?

Someone needs to look up the listed part number in ASA - MD998767.
I would but I've just shut down my laptop and now going to bed

Thanks Shane, I didn't even notice that they'd listed the mitsi part number on the ebay add
I've had a look in ASA but couldn't find it, but then again i'm not that familiar with ASA yet.
I've just checked on Camskill and it's the same too (MD998767).
That seem like a good price then - $30 including shipping?
