Yes u get the so-call recognition, which equal to the "wank factor" hmmmmmm hang on i've got those "brand" exhaust
Ok on the serious side, those Jap brand are suppose to gone through "extensive" reseach inorder to match the equipment from the rest of your car, & therefore it should give you better performance.

this is my belief in jap-branded parts = 75% quality, 25% value...
so really, you are paying for top-shelf quality when it comes to fit and finish... the reason they are sooo expensive is because of their hideously expensive labour costs.
you can get a similar-designed system locally for sometimes up to less than half of what the Japs are charging, with very marginal difference in quality and performance but then again, you won't get the street cred without a Jap part fitted LoL...

Personally I think many people buy "name brand" exhausts for the wank-factor and not for the tuning and performance aspects. If it makes them happy, then so be it, but don't kid yourself, just because it is a name brand doesn't mean it is necessarily going to give you better performance than a non-name brand.
The exhaust is a "system" made up of a number of components. Like with any system to get the optimal result, each of the components needs to be tuned to provide a specific outcome. If there is a clash between the components then regardless of how good they are individually, when you put them together things will be worse not better.
Even if it is a name brand exhaust, unless it was designed specifically for the FTO it may make things worse. Likewise, even if it is for a FTO it may have been designed to have a certain look and sound not for performance. It's far easier to make an exhaust louder than it is to tune it to provide an increase in peformance. I would suggest that some manufacturers do this as many people buy exhausts on their looks and sound and because a louder exhaust gives the impression of greater performance but this isn't necessarily so.

Ok, pretty much what i thought. I went out and got a cat back system done for my car. 2.5" + sports muffler + resonator (because it was toooo loud). I noticed slightly less off the lights (i have a tip so i just have to deal) and have noticed quicker pickup above 3000rpms. I am guessing this is where some jap brands would have tuned the system properly for a given driving purpose.
I would have liked to test that out on a quarter mile run or something - as it is probably just me thinking that its better
I am just thinking out loud here:- with such a large rev range and being non mivec, the exhaust couldnt possibly be tuned for that entire spread even if i had of purchased a jap brand name system correct?? as in if you were to be racing these cars you would try and tune the exhaust to be at its peak performance in the higher end of the rev spectrum... whereas the every day driver might want a bit of an increase lower in that range. Does this make any sense or am i completely missing the functionality of these systems.

Nothing can do everything!
All the components that make up the various system will be designed for a specific purpose or a particular rev range. The cams in the MIVEC engine are a perfect example of this. The 1st cam is tuned for the lower rev range and the 2nd one for the higher rev range. In a similar manner a two-way or three-way speaker system will be able to produce better sound than a full-range speaker as each of the components is tuned to produce optimal sound in a given frequency range. In terms of exhausts, different sizes and different setups will result in different performance gains (or losses) in different rev ranges.

to a certain degree you are right...
a 2.5" exhaust piping on the FTO will rob away some low-end to compensate for better mid and top-end power due to less backpressure at high revs...
racers spend a lot of their time on the top-end of the rev range which is why most of the tuning/mods carried out are not suitable for day to day driving...
however, it is very difficult (if not impossible) to tune a cars performance for broader spread of power/torque throughout the revband based on exhaust mods alone, esp for an NA car.

Yeah, I've already ordered the UAS CAI kit. I'll see what difference it makes once it arrives. other than these exhaust and intake mods
is there any thing else that can be done to improve lower range below 3000rpm because if you are driving in the ct area and most zones are like 50 or 60km you would preety much be below this mark most of the time.... anyting that is affordable nothing like going into the thousand mark?
