Xenon head/fog lights

Hi,

Sorry I just read what I posted now and the fog lights are H3, which is the model number.

The after market ones you buy like the xenon lights are brighter then FTOs. And I think any car has a head light brighter than FTO. It's because the FTOs low beam doesn't have the reflectors.
Obviously you might be thinking of the higher wattage ones then...but with these you'll have to watch out as this could lead to your sockets melting or your relay going out. This is usually not a problem with newer cars, but I don't think we'll be calling most of our ftos a newer cars....

I've had this problem as well, my socket melted and made it look like the bulb had blown. So I replaced my low beams with the standrd PIAAs and it's fine now. But my high beams still have the higher wattage bulbs in them but as I don't use them all the time it's fine so far.



And sorry i don't really know any one in Mel. about these things...

They seem awfully awfully cheap... how bad could they be?

All I really want is a nice, suttle purplish light.... and so long as turning on the headlights still give me just a bit more visability then no headlights, i'll be happy

Even this seems ridiclously cheap for a full hid conversion kit?

In reference to the first two links:
These are normal globes (not a HID system) that produce a white light (6000K) which appears to be purple because the glass is tinted. In terms of how good they are, I have no idea but whenever light has to pass through tinted glass it's brightness / performance will decrease.

In reference to the last link:
This is a HID system, but by the time you convert this to AU$ pay for the shipping and add GST you really won't be saving much. On top of that, remember that you will need to pay a professional to install them. You may also run into legal and warranty issues coming from overseas. It is however a proper purple (indigo / violet) light (12,000K).

Just to clarify something, and this may sound a little pendantic, but it should also help to explain things a little better, the colour of the light you are seeking is actually indigo or violet not purple. The basic colour temperature pattern is the same as a rainbow. i.e. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. With red and orange being the "warmer" colours and indigo and violet being the "cooler" colours. Colour below red is "infra-red" and above violet is "ultra-violet". To create a true "purple" light you would actually need two seperate colour sources a red one and a blue one mixed together (make sense?). Whereas, based on the information you have provided you are seeking a cooler coloured light (indigo or violet) probably no less than 8,000K, but more likely around 10,000K or above.

OK I'm going to bite the bullet I think and buy the top 2...

I mean, it's fairly cheap, and so long as it gives off a nice colour, I will be content... If it's screwed, well I've lost like $50, i'll get over it :p

Will those globes fit, without any problems you think?

i just replaced the bulbs on my headlights with genuine PIAA bulbs (7500K) - ask anyone who came to Mallacoota just how 'blue' it looks at night LoL... it's not very bright at first impression but in total darkness it works a treat, almost as if the lines on the road somehow illuminate... but yerrr, it did take some getting used to, but if you have driving lights on, you should have no visibility probs.

btw, i paid $200 for my bulbs... *slaps self over the head*

So what are the differences between these PIAA (globes?) and those much cheaper ones? I mean, what do they do differently? If anything? Do the PIAA use gas to light? Because I thought, that was what a HID kit was designed for?

What about those Phillips lights? Do they do anything different compared to those el cheapo ones?

What I'd really like is something like the H4 SUPER PLASMA GT-X

Still, how do these globes differ to the cheap ones, and phillips ones? Outside of the performance (Which seems to be unamimous that they perform significantly best, compared to everything else, except a full HID system)? What do they actually do different?

I have these in my foggies, there awsome. Direct light is really white, but on the outside it's like a blue purple. There very nice.

I'm no expert, but I believe that with light bulbs you fully pay for what you get...

I would think that it's mostly technology, quality, and the gas used inside the bulb, so say a 55w globe will be as bright as 110w due to the gas inside. But i'm just rampling here
