This.... If it is any worse you may something wrong with your box.

Yeah, I'm not talking about a massive difference.
You're right, the time between auto to manual is probably spot on the same, simply because you have no clutch and H pattern that you're more aware of the time it takes.
It's not instantaneous is all I'm saying...

.6 of a second seems to ring a bell...
which is quicker than a manual shift\
it was one of the initial selling points of the FTO when it was new

Any stick driver that can't shift faster than 0.6sec when giving it shouldn't be driving stick!

Seriously, 0.6sec ??? That's a bloody long time for a shift if you're trying to shift it quickly. Granted during normal day to day driving, a manual driver shifting can even take one second plus but when driving properly, 0.6sec is pathetic.
edit - not to mention that the FTO manual box shifts very nicely and i never had any issues shifting it *really* quick.

"Driving properly" != racing

and how new would the average fto gearbox be these days.
honestly, I reckon I could count a whole second on our box, and that was no difference with the other FTOs I've driven.
However, it does all come down to treatment.

You can get to roughly 140km/h in second gear

no way 140, i got about 120/125 at the most in a 4 speed tip, theoretically it should be less in a 5 speed tip

I got a 4 speed as well and second definitely gets over 120km/h. If I'm on a "race track" going 120km/h in 4th if shifts into second if I floor it with rpm to spare.
Just did a calc and the FTO second gear has a theoretical limit of roughly 135km/h.

agreed I used to shift around 130 when mine was tip
