That's not strange, theoretically that is normal... I'll let you know what the mechanic finds wrong with my car. So atleast you will know.

also how do you know your car is running rich? is it doesnt it just during warmup or all the time?
Well, I'm aware that running rich at start up is normal but my car keeps running rich even when it is warm. As first i can smell it slightly, and secondly it backfires sometimes. 8O

I will get this checked also. :)

Ok, well today I finnaly will be getting my car back from the mechanic, just in time for the cruise tommorow

Ok, so here is what the problem was. Basically the plugs on the alternator were corroded, and some of the bits in the alternator were too, also i needed a new regulator that payaya mentioned.

Also they rewired my terminals, and checked the electrical system.

Well, unfortunatly for me this is not covered under my warranty because the cause of this is corrosion. Which my warranty doesn't claim.

But thinking about it, it did get worse after I degreased the engine... so yeah ppl, keep your engine bay away from water... if possible...

So you may find a much better price for this job, but I had no choise as this is already been done, and I kinda need my car, the damage to my wallet is around $650.

Any one wanna donate a dollar or two?

So one question comes out from this for me, there is a fair bit of rust around my engine bay, and this problem was clearly due to rust, would you guys & gals reccomend me rust proofing my car?

ummm.... that's crap!

While I agree that it may not be covered by your extended warranty it should be covered by the statutory warranty as this is a "pre-existing" issue. Corrosion like that just doesn't happen that fast.

When you had the vehicle inspected did they pick up on the various bits of rust you are refering too?

I suggest you talk to both the MTA-NSW and Consumer Affairs as the corrosion issue on the alternator should be deemed an existing issue and repaired for free under the statutory warranty.

As for the rust on the body, you have no comeback there. You were aware of it before hand and made the decision to buy it anyway.
