Re: Boring a Throttle Body
would be interesting to see what kind of results a 70mm tb gets. I predict you wont get much more gains in a 90mm compared to a 70mm because the bore might be big enough to begin having a negative effect on the air velocity. Might be beneficial for some more top end though *cough* shane *cough*
70-75mm might be the sweet spot for those looking for a few extra kw's but whether its worth the money or not will depend on what kind of gain a bored out tb will bring.

Koolio you're spot on there, you don't want bigger than the engine can use. This is on my to do list, which is why I bought a spare complete intake manifold a while back, but still a bit far down my list, but then I didn't know you could get them done for $500 exchange, that's not a bad deal if they're done well.

Re: Boring a Throttle Body
LOL
75 & 90mm throttle bodies!
Ever actually looked at an FTO one? You're doing well just to get the 63mm out of it!
There's no room to machine anything out of it. There's more room on the plenum, but even
then you'll run out of metal before you get anywhere near say 70mm.

Only way to go bigger is to get a custom plenum made up, then put on any aftermarket TB on it you like.
Mmmmm Billet....

Re: Boring a Throttle Body
On closer inspection, they only list a 65mm option for the FTO. That's still a 17% area increase on standard thoughBennoz wrote:LOL75 & 90mm throttle bodies!

Re: Boring a Throttle Body
i emailed them. they said the only do a 65mm for an FTO.... 5mm is not worth $574.
Then i messaged 6boost and they said they have run 1160rwhp through a 60mm throttlebody and is more than enough.

Exactly. Im pulling 250 at wheels & the 6A13 is the same 60mm unit used on the 6A12.

Re: Boring a Throttle Body
Yes Ben, but you have a stinking big hairdryer pumping in air under pressure lol, the rules for intake efficiency are very different for turbo vs non turbo.
If the size of the intake didn't make any difference why would anyone bother changing the stock intake piping... The UAS pipe on it's own is rumoured to make a dramatic increase in power.
That said, just enlarging the throttle body is only one part of the equation, port matching everything would be just as important, as would looking at the actual efficiency across the cylinders of the existing intake system and potentially modifying this accordingly.
Like everything in the quest for automotive performance, nothing is as simple as one component, but every little bit helps, potentially...
But bang for buck SilverGPX, Haltech would be your first step, because to get the benefit out of a larger or modified intake you will need to be able to pump in more fuel.

Re: Boring a Throttle Body
Haha, I was going to check in your post but couldn't be fucked reading through 100,000 pages lol!
I believe they also do just the throttle body. Price for other engines is around $180. Then port your manifold yourself to match. That's what I'm gonna do
(when I get my fuckin emanage working lol!)
PS: Vlandis, how was the quality of the job done on the throttle body?
