The breather hose is usually connected back into the air intake with the MIVEC engine. Some people put a small air filter on the end instead if they get a new intake. I am not sure if blocking the pipe up with the bolt is detrimental or not.

he means a small pod filter both gr and gpx have same intake setup and some people use them but as said its not what yours is, as the breather runs from rocker to intake

Well i tested without the input sensor connected and the only difference was that it went into limp mode as soon as i hit third gear, other than that it was exactly the same.

As the car warms up it gets progressively worse, revs dropping to idle and seemingly going out of gear when foot is taken off the acellerator and slamming into 1st gear and/or bucking in and out of gear when stopped or stopping.

Bottom line...car is getting sold. sick of it, can't be doing with the hassle at the moment when i don;t have the money to rectify it.

Okay, having a look at your pics, the small hose with the bolt in it - I am pretty sure that should be connected to the MAP sensor, which of course your car doesn't have because of its GR heritage.

The connectors from the right hand side of your manifold are the ones sitting in your engine bay around the input sensor area.

AS for the gearbox issues - sit with your foot on the brake and the car in gear. Rev it and the car should stall at around 3K (someone correct me if I am remembering wrong) that will test your TC.

ummm, tired that, it goes to 2000 revs then the car starts to move, thats with handbrake and my foot on the brake as hard as possible. The brake starts to push back on me.

OK so i had a look through the workshop manual and the stall speed of the FTO is 2100-2600, i'll test again later once i move the car away from anything else. Now since i got to around the 2000ish mark before panicking that the car was gonna go through my patio windows this suggests the problem is not the torque convertor (i did some research on stall testing and torque convertors.)

Which means it's either going to be the transmission slipping....OR if it stalls when it's supposed to then the problem is either sensor related or an "internal transmission issue" which means the transmission would need a rebuild or replacement.

getting there with your help guys, so thanks, but in all honesty the car is going to be sold either way now, and i'll buy another. But until it's sold i will keep testing things so i can do a proper write up on what i've tested and how for other peopel with similar problems ;)

Hi guys, Im the owner of this car now. Im Philly btw, here and at ftooc.

First of all, am I right in thinking to finish the conversion, I need a complete loom and ecu and MAP sensor? Could it be the gr ecu with the gpx engine causing the problems?

Where does the loom run and how bad of a job is it? Is the gpx manual loom different from the auto?

I have the whole summer to sort the problem(good weather and self employed :))

Is there any surefire way of checking the transmission?

Also, dstocks, do you post to the UK?

Cheers, Philly(my first post!)

Would the loom not need to be changed to make use of the mivec?

Is there any easy way to check? Not having to change the entire loom would make me a happy bunny :D

No, as Im pretty sure the ecu is still a gr, which makes me think the loom is still a gr. Looks like they have just replaced the engine.

I guess I can post to the UK (I didnt notice that small details when I posted before - I have sent overseas before though), but it may be cheaper if you do a little checking around locally first. There should be quite a few of them being wrecked over there.

If you do end up wanting me to send a package, take the time to work out which bits you want so they all get sent together.

hey it's phil. Heya buddy. These guys are awesome help on here.

I reckon the loom is still GR, as its still utilising the MAF rather than the MAP, but yeah you should be able to wack on the mivec and MAP parts of the loom since they are the only differences afaik?!

OH and don;t forget what i said mate. if you want an extra set of hands all you got to do is let me know and i'll pop round and help out.

    Option 1
i would be getting a gpx wiring loom and ecu and fitting that.

    Option 2
Pull engine out and put gr engine.

    Problem solved
