Unfortunately, that's not exactly true.
You basically have to have paid more tax last year then what was given back to you in your tax return. It is NOT just a case of filing a tax return.
Therefore everyone who had a casual job and earned less then 10 grand last financial year will most likely not receive a cent.
Since I only had a casual job last year and earned around 10 grand, I won't be eligible. I paid $550 tax and received all of it back on my tax return.
f**king disappointing.

yeah, it's kinda disappointing that it only goes to the people who don't need it .. the dole bludgers can do without AFAIC .. but people on disabilities pensions or whatever that genuinely can't work could use the extra grand..
all well & good to give us back some of the tax we've paid (even such a small amount) .. but there are some people / families that are struggling to make ends meet & deserve to qualify for some sort of assistance ..
Instead they give out baby bonuses & assistance for Child Care in stupid amounts to anyone, no matter their circumstances.. 'tis frakked

are you sure that's true? because doesn't being a student and the like mean you get more tax back? so just because you study and therefore get all your tax back you won't get the money compared to someone who you worked just as much as but they pissed around not studying, didn't get all their tax back, and will get the money
seems a bit stupid if that's the case

Nah probably do the responsible thing and pay off some debts. I'm pretty keen on the krudd bonus party though where we all blow the money in one night on booze

Obvisouly its going "towards" the conversion, not paying it out right

You are eligible to receive the payment if:
your 2007-08 taxable income does not exceed $100,000
your adjusted tax liability for 2007-08 is greater than zero (that is, you paid tax)
Straight from the ATO website. Intepret how you like, but not everyone that file their tax return will get it.

If you got back less in your tax return than what you paid you get it
If you got back more in your tax return than what you paid in tax, then you won't
Also, the amount of the bonus decreases for certain tax brackets .. not sure of the exact figures ..

the smart thing to do would be:
new brake pads, brake fluid and service (hasn't been serviced in 40,000km!!)
Thats not very smart.
surprisingly its driving almost perfectly. just running a bit rich sometimes.
i've only had the car for the last 11,000km.
the previous owner never had it serviced.. typical woman driver
but yeah, i suppose its time for a service. i keep putting it off.
i hate paying for stuff where you don't actually get a physical object for your money.
Wow.. this has to be the worst case of neglecting care for the car I've heard of lol.. I already give sh*t to my workmate cos he goes upto 15k without a service.
The car's not meant to break down if you don't service it on time, so you shouldn't be happy that it's still running fine after 40K no service.
The longest I've gone without a service is 6100kms lol.
Anyway, as for the 900 - Save it

i'm actually quite a caring owner.. maybe a bit too much in fact.
i.e. i washed it 4 times last week
just haven't had the spare cash to service it yet.
bit behind on rent at the moment so will try and clear up debts and all that and get it done
