You need to remember that these cars were designed for JDM - jap domestic market.

Over there, 98-ron fuel is par for the course, it isn't 'premium' as such.

So one of the joys of owning a jap grey import is that you have to play ball and shell out for the 'premium' varieties of petrol. Sure, the car will probably still run on standard unleaded, but you certainly won't get the best out of it. As for whether it will actually do harm to the car, I'd say the jury is still out but better to be safe than sorry!

On an interesting side note; I've compared the dyno graphs from my car when run on Shell VPR (100 RON) and BP Ultimate (98 RON) and the AFR for the shell was all over the shop, whereas the AFR for the Ultimate was pretty much a straight line. Has anyone noticed the same?

air fuel ratio? is that what stands for AFR

and driving in tip would save you petrol if you just put it up to highest gear at like 1k revs ... but honestly thats being soo tight it isnt funny ... how much does petrol cost anyway? its not much ... 70bucks lasts me nearly 400km :D (always driving in tip and never shift unless im hearing the baby mivec  )

anyway abit off topic ... would fuel do you guys recommend?

shell v-power = feels quiet and "feels" more responsive than the unleaded 95ron

bp ultimate?
caltex vortex?
mobile synergy?

what are they like :P

besides, you cant shift at 2000 rpm in each gear for the tips. first to second is alright bel;ow 2000rpm, but it wont shift to third unless youre doing 20km/h, wont shift to 4th unless youre doing 40km/h and wont shift to 5th unless youre doing 60.

you wont feel a difference until the computer that controls your engine realises what octane it is, and that normally takes 2-3 full tanks in a row, and you definitely wont notice anything different if you drive conservatively anyway. just dont put base level fuel in there coz the FTO wont take it too well at all.

To the point don't buy a sports car if your trying to save money the two things don't mix unless you are on a high salary!

BP ultimate bar the stuff at the track is quite honestly the best stuff I've found. Shell has always felt weak and in my old car (2000 GLi 4 door lancer - not the f**ken coupe pos thing) I honestly felt a 25% gain in performance over normal fuel. It was pull away slowly one day, wheelspin the next.
