Yeah, Mk5 Golfs are great cars, but they're designed with a different purpose.

They're a lot heavier, with much better safety specs, plus they're just plain bigger. Sure, you can bolt on go-fast bits (like they did to the GTI) but at the end of the day it's still got a base car that's got a different intended purpose to the FTO.

To the OP, please learn to punctuate... hitting Enter every so often wouldn't hurt either.

As to why people like the big aussie sixes? Because they're value for money, they've got a lot of power, they're RWD, and they've secured themselves a nice 2-horse race every weekend so everyone feels like Mark Skaife every time they get behind the wheel.

It's horses for courses my friend; some people like Commodores, some people like FTOs. To labour the point, some people like CRX Del Sols, some people even buy Kias. sh*t happens.

No vid on the fto vs GTi since they're different period cars but you can look up fastest lap times at www.fastestlaps.com

Nicholas,
Oh definiitely, newer cars have so much more features but if someone just wants a drivers car...much better off getting something older that's probably lighter, less/no electronic aids etc. :D and i think the fto fits that bill nicely

Yeah, exactly.

If you're any more of a hardcore enthusiast, you'd be driving an AE86!
