Simon, whatever man :D I'm not saying you can't do it, but if you wanna downshift to 1st every time you get below 30km/h (which is about where 2nd stops pulling) that's your business

Long as you've rev matched it and as I8afre said, the speed isn't outside of the gear, it'll be fine. If you don't rev match it though, you'll either be locked out of the gear (i.e. the gearstick won't move up into 1st) or you'll crunch the hell out of it and damage internals. FUN!

Haha cheers guys for the info!
But it still does it in auto mode :?
So it does it by itself not me...
its when I'm braking at the lights when I stop the car it shifts
from second to first and its quite a jolt!
so just give it a service?
and I know I was being careful cos I didn't have any insurance!
but yeah I'm definitely keeping this car for a long time to come!
I can't even believe I got it for my first car!

Sounds like the auto gearbox needs a fluid change. Quite normal for an auto car to slip into 1st as you stop at the lights...but not normal for it to be jerky when it's in full auto mode. Very very high chance once you change the oil, it'll be all good ;)

driving a fto is a totally fun and exciting expericence, the first time i hit the mivec range i felt goosebumps and a shiver down the spine. i wish you all the best and lots of enjoyment with it.
as long as you take lots of care and give it some good luving, it will take care of you too. drive safely and carefully.
my one piece of advice is this: driving is the easy part, anticipating the erracticness/wildness/actions of other morons on the road is the hard bit.

Is it manual or tip?

Like Simon said, if it's tip there should be no problem down changing to first I would think.

For a manual though I only ever down change to first when coming to a complete stop, usually the synchros seem to keep you out if your above about 10 km's a hour, either that our your really forcing it into gear and those 1st gear synchros won't last long.
See this is going to sound wierd, but be it good or bad my integra was able to hit first with minimum effort anywhere below 40km/h... not that i regularly did it that high, but it came in handy for a quick take off if you wern't completely stopped.

What does that mean in relation to our fto transmissions? Either the integra transmission was better or had 'smoother' synchros or the synchros were f$%ked

??? any ideas
My old Tx3 does it easy as well, ussually putting me through the windscreen at the time. I think it may have something to do with the synchros in our boxes. Not sure about integra boxes but I can remember our manual boxes being applauded for their smoothness and synchros, even having some on reverse. I think first may have triple synchros, I'm sure my laser doesn't so I think this may be the reason it is easier to slot in........without rev mathcing as has been said.

Sorry for the off topic Valandis91, good luck and glad you loved your first drive, as others have mentioned, be safe and look out for the other idiots. I've been merged on by a F truck on the M1 one day, very scary...............

hey i used to have the same problem, it wouldn't exactly be a huge jerk but when nearly at at complete stop it'd downshift and you'd feel it just nudge a few centimetres forward as if there was an extra foot pushing on the accelerator. i got it serviced, oil change and a bit of engine cleaning and its been running fine.... well so far :)
