hey mikey, one more question, are you sure you got the clutch kit for the FTO and not for the Magna V6 (R604)?
Apparently there is a huge difference in price, but the plates for the magna is actually the same size, and spline diameter is only .01mm different.
anyway after a lot of digging around, the $640 quote I got was for the Magna clutch, and I decided to get the proper FTO clutch kit for $900 fitted.

ok the magna kit has different bearings so it wont fit... im getting mine fitted for $900 which is the cheapest i could find in sydney (some quoted $1100)
i saved myself a lot of pain by finding out more about that suss $640 quote... looks like mikey still got a super deal coz that price is cheaper than the whole kit itself

anyway here is the part number for the exedy heavy duty clutch kit

oh and apparently it has 50% extra clamping force... but im waiting to hear back from Exedy Australia on the final word.

got the new clutch in and dang its nice! bites really hard and the engange point is right down to the floor which is beautiful... i was wheelspinning 1st-2nd all the way home

u should really go easy on it at the start and bed it in, though i did the same when i got the same clutch kit.
im sure i got it for around 300-400 fitted i cant remember (my mate fitted it)
Im sure i will need another clutch soon, still slips a bit, so when i get it done, i can access to all mitsu parts and i can compare to see if the magnas the same

you sure you got that same part number i mentioned? and it was daiken/exedy?
maybe you got the magna one... but you would not have been able to use the bearings that come with that kit

Hi guys.... just want to get my head around the types of clutches....
(1) A performance based clutch will allow what? shorter travel distance between letting it out and changing gear? heavier etc? last longer? allow quicker gear changes etc and faster launching?
(2) I want a clutch that is better then the standard fto clutch but not painful. I only occasionally give my car any stick, and i drive a lot through the city so dont want to hate driving.... If it does make it easier to launch the car though - this is kinda important
(3) I ahve been offered an organic heavy duty clutch, presure plate and new thrust bearing from exedy ... for about $650 insatlled.... this sound like the style that suits me???
i have also been offered from the same place a soft cusion button clutch , which is supposably heavy duty but has a soft cusion between the single plate to make driving a little easier??? is this overkill? its also a lot more $$$ like nearly a grand.
what have other people found? thanx guys

I replaced my stock clutch with, err, another stock clutch.
The RalliArt guy here found that manual FTOs basically use the early EVO clutches. So no probs handling the kind of forces from a MIVEC engine...
The original clutch lasted from '95 to '04, with the last two years being full of motorsport fun & games. I'll tell you how long the replacement lasts... if any of you are still around when it gives out!

can anyone give a bit more details to the questions?
sorri its just my clutch is just about dead..... I have been quoted on numerous different versions - buts its very hard / or impossible to try before you buy! so i dont want to pay out for something and then not enjoy dricing the car.

I got a Daiken Exedy Heavy Duty clutch in my car and the clutch pedal is actually quite heavy. Although that's compared to the lancer 1.8 clutch. After about 2-3 days I got used to it and it feels normal

The guys have now suggested changing to a exedy clutch kit which includes Heavy duty organic clutch plate, pressure plate and new thrust bearing. He felt a soft cushion clutch would be uncessary on my car (especially being FWD) and that the one he suggested would have more then sufficient clamping ability.
I think I will lean towards that one.

Well i got it done, its a exedy Organic heavy duty, it is a still an full lining clutch but just a bit heavier than standard. And apparently a 30-40% increase in clamping rate. ANyway for those that want to know it was $354 plus $280 for labour. ITs much nicer to drive now, can really get a much better change in gears without losing power when I change,
how many kms does it take to bed a clutch? e.g. to be gentle on it?
