Weight of engine is important..

I highly doubt it would be anywhere near 300kg..

Maybe, 140-150kg..?

If so, it's too heavy for me.

I'm looking for something around 130kg max, lighter if possible.

The standard Rover K motor in the Elise is about 90kg.
The Duratec i was considering is similar, around 85kg with nothing but alternator.

I believe 3SGE is about 125-130kg.

So, basically, before deciding, i need to find the weight of 6A12 full motor, with NO ANCILLARIES. If 130kg or less, it's still an option.

I just checked the weight of the topend/heads and they come to 44kgs, 22 kgs each.
I did not get to check the bottom end today as I have been sick so I will get that first thing tomorrow for you.
but just at a ges i would say you will be looking around the 130 - 160kg

as for the weight of the 6A12 you are looking at 140kgs + oil, water and so on.
hope that helps.

Bugger.. apologies for the size of the pics.. will sort that out..

Thanks for the comments..

As for the motor being about 140kg.. well, it's still an option..

As are the 2ZZ, and the 3SGE Beams motor..

2ZZ will be lightest, at about 110kg.. 3SGE is about 130kg, and the 6A12 i'll assume at 140kg..

Putting aftermarket cams into 6A12 will cost double what the other two will, coz, well, there's twice as many..!
Logic tells me to go with one of the Toyo 4's..
But i wanna hear the low capacity MIVEC shriek!!!

Dammit...

Have you completly ruled out the k20a?? Comes with the VTEC YO!!!!! shreek and 175 kws stock (jdm ecu). Aftermarket parts are rediculous, as bennoz said, plus these motor's can make some rediculous numbers n/a. Another option from the honda engine's is looking at doing a possible b16 - b20 hybrid (1.6 civic vtir/type r top with a crv 2l bottom end). Would yield some nice figures as well mate.... A set of indi throttle bodies in a 6a12 mivec would be a wet dream though....

i used to have 1 and there pretty awsome .. you can really hear the VTEC YO!!!!! crossover
plenty of aftermarket support more torque then the fto engines too. only thing is there 2.2l ..

Cams for 6A12: RPW do them..

Other motors..

Ok, K20A may be an option, however, 3 reasons I'm shying away:
Many already done: I like to do something different..
Price of motor/box or half cut.. still very expensive..
Company does a drive in, drive out conversion.. at a measly $35000...

Availabiloity of the drive in, drive away makes it silly for me to do all the custom fabricating myself, but you won't see me paying $35,000 for an engine conversion!!

The most expensive option i am considering is the Cosworth Duratec 220, with the motor costing $10,500 USD.

Other Honda motors (H series, B series) are not an option, the motor sits to the wrong side of the engine bay..
Elise has the motor with the cam belt on driver's side.. as per 6A12, and other motors i've listed..

I've also thought about 2L 4cyl motors from Peugeot, Citroen, Alfa...

None come close to the factory 200hp..

Other than the 3 motors listed above, the next closest is around 150hp standard..

I'm sort of torn about the 2ZZ, it is all alloy, etc, so a good option, but the inlet side will sit against firewall, ruling out any chance of inlet mods like ITB's..

I have my doubts. Never seen any conclusive evidence/dyno charts from them. Else we would all have gone & grabbed a set.
