I know exactly how you feal coz my mechanic told me when I picked my car up yesterday that I have to have my shocks replace to, as well as heaps of other suspension parts. He told me it would be around $1500.00 as well. I have no idea if I’m getting ripped off (and he knows it) so he probably ups the price. I will have to look around for some one else to do it then, any suggestions for Brisbane mechanics guys?

Have a look in the QLD section  Joe & Ricks usually gets a good mention in there. Also Fulcrum suspension have a workshop up there.

Not sure about brisbane, but Joe and Ricks on the Goldcoast are awesome for FTO related stuff... they know what they're doing... Never hear a bad word.
Other than that I'd reccomend taking it to 2-3 Suspension specialists.
Get plenty of quotes.
If you notice one is higher than the other... pull him up on it and ask him why. Same if one is cheaper than the rest. Its all good and well paying less... But always think... Why is that price higher/lower....
Will look around for you.
Looking at geting suspension work done anyway.

this site will give you some good info on aftermarket bushes, if you go to your local Pedders they will do a $14 suspension check and tell you exactly what needs to be replaced & what doesn't ... Aftermarket shocks will cost you between $700-4000 depending how much you want to spend.

OE - Original Equipment struts (w/o springs) will probably cost you.. between $500-800 for both front & back, maybe $300 to replace all bushes.
I've been quoted at trade price for KYB OE Suspension struts - $492 for all 4

Check out www.fulcrumsuspensions.com.au for a listing of Polyurethane bushes for FTO & cross check with www.camskill.co.uk

Get a quote from Supercheap for the bushes & Bursons Autoparts will beat it. ... they actually gave me better prices than going directly to the manufacturer..

Just in case you were wondering, sorry if you already know.. but Aftermarket / coilover suspension will give you a less comfortable ride than the Original shocks, and the Polyurethane bushes will give you an even harder uncomfy ride ... You might be able to con someone on the forums to let you tag along for a ride in their car if they have the aftermarket suspension to see how it feels...

I love the fto seats, don't think I would be able to find any better if i tried.... if they're a bit shabby you can get them re-upholstered or recovered - if you're wanting to spend a few $$ you can get leatherette seat covers -- check the For Sale section :)

The best place in Australia for the body kit would be DMD in Brisbane (they get the best feedback anyway). That may not be close to you however.
