FTO99R wrote:$550!!! how the hell did you get away with it that cheap. I'm in the process of getting a quote at the moment and its $1000 just for bits and labour will be at least $700. Are you in syd cause I'd really like to know where I could get the parts cheaper? (the quote was on all genuine parts)
holy crap.. labour 700$
man i would go speak to a mechanic while off duty offer him cash in hand to take it out for u .. and take the box in yourself to gearbox place..its exactly what i did !
my mates bro' is a bus mechanic.. no idea about fto's took out my suspension .. drained oil .. took out bolts.. and i took it to a gearbox place.. for them to repair it .. cost me 550 inc labour and parts for them to rebuild it .. then got him to put the gearbox back up in and along with new suspension.
i gave him a bit of hand.. took about 2hrs. only cos we couldnt get it in the groove. and was done.. so i rekon 2 hours to take it out 2 hours to put it in .probably less for a profesional but yeah only took them really 4hours labour to replace parts in gbx. but they said they gave me a bit of a d.c on me .. also.. but not much .

just speak to a young kid.. pay him 100$ to take it out and put it in for u .. and drop the gearbox off to a place..in syd.. but i recomend u make the drive to newcastle for 1 hour and get this place to do it for u where i got mine done.. my gearbox is runin awsome its like a new car.. haha

Yeh I'm shopping around at the moment and definately reckon I can get a cheaper price. The $1000 for parts is all genuine Mitsubishi parts including all synchros and bearings. Theres only one synchro I have to get from overseas the rest are overnight delivery so i reckon I'l order that one part then take the box out and get the recon guy to check out what really needs doing. 1st to second and 2nd to 3rd are definates but the others might not need doing. I might also be able to get the designations off the bearings once out that way I can get them wholesale through Nachi or SMC for about half the price. As far as labour goes well I'm just gonna have to ring around and see how I go. As I said I need to find some mechanic mates.
