what ever happened to the instant messenger that was going to be installed, is this still a work in progress?

If changing Acronyms from eg. LOL to Laughing Out Loud... perhaps don't capitalise each word, would look somewhat odd thru the middle of a sentence.

Anyway... back from holidaying down near byron and will fire up the editor over the next few days. Get some of those annoyances changed.

whats next ? every mod/admin need to be english teachers and rename this site to "ABC Early Learning FTO Centre"?

That aside, i'm on kev's side, do we really need to be that anal about all of this? is U, your, COS, LOL, PPL, ROFL, TXT, MSG, WTF, FTW (actually i'm not a big fan of this one, partually because it took me months to figure out what it meant hahah) really that annoying?

besides, good luck getting a complete list of all of that, on top of that there are things like your, people might use that as you're or your, that u just can't get a w0rd filter to figure out.

a spell check might be a helpful tool, for ppl that want to use it, but then again, it's going to complain about abbriviations like the ones listed above.

as for swearing, most of us are pretty good with it. besides it's not just swearing that's offensive, you dont have to swear to be offensive , and it seems like mods/admin jumps on those offensive threads pretty quick anyway.

I dont think we should go to the extend that are suggested, simply because it is just not needed.

but if i may, as the only member with part of his user name w0rd filtered i want to suggest that ben give up his w0rd filter previlages

Well, the instant messenger app is on the server, I just need to fine tune it a bit before I can let you lot use it.

Also note, as of this afternoon I am changing the 'webmaster@ftoaustralia.com' email address to 'admin@ftoaustralia.com.' You wouldn't believe the amount of spam that comes through the webmaster one as its been active for so many years... I get about 100 spam mails a day thru it & it takes me hours to weed out the real mail

So you will notice all the PM notification emails etc that you get, will now come from the admin address.

Hey ben every now again i get an email link for a thread on this forum (think it is this thread) and when i click on the link it says thrad does not exist.

i've noticed that too, but as far as i can figure it out, it happens when a thread gets spastically long, then the notification link points to a view point that doesnt exist or something similar to that (maybe its something to do with the thread being so long it maxes out one of the variables), it happens to the newbie reveal yourself thread (in fact i think it started happening to me about 3 or 6 months after i joined) and probably a couple others that about that length

Yeah, thats a database Issue thats a bit beyond me. Its on the to do list, but I need to rv with my db guru for that, probably next year sometime.
