Yep, and by the sounds of it, you don't either nvr2low which means they're not going to be very careful with what they do / tell you cos you they know that all you're concerned with is spending money to get it done quick, which is really something you DON'T want them even guessing at.

guys they know what they are doing. What I meant by paying the money to get it done, is that I rather pay the money to get it done so I know the project is going to work. Thanks for the confidence guys I don't know about turbo cars but I have been swapping all the stuff on the motor and putting the gearbox and clutch in. I am trying really hard to learn how to do all this.

hey guys update I was happy with my progress today I got the clutch and gearbox all in today. Also put aircon motor on also and put the belt on, turbo and new dump pipe should be back 2morow and then they are going to work on the front actuator. Wiring looms are being sent to sydney 2morow to be spliced togther.

that sucks mate .. send them an email & post a copy of a letter stating that it has been kept for 'X' amount of time over what you were originally quoted for .. & that you were originally quoted 'X' dollars for the work ..

That you want it completed by a certain date as per original agreement & not paying til it's done etc etc (like Ben did)

Ask for a response within whatever time period, 2 days, 5 days etc & if you don't get one, or they tell you to piss off, then go to fair trading I reckon..

Just remember that you have some pretty beefy laws to help protect from being ripped off

If the workshop takes it badly then tell them to give you your car back & you'll take it elsewhere & don't pay for any work that they haven't actually done.

you should be able to see where your money is going to and the progress being made..

I think it would be worthwhile seeing a solicitor before undertaking any major engine work to find out how you are covered legally if it goes wrong or whatever & possibly have a contract drawn up to be signed by the workshop before starting (I don't know how realistic that is).. cause it just seems way too easy for things to get out of hand, & every time the original quote gets blown out to at least double.. anyway... midnight rant over..

+1

Nvr2low it seems as if their taking advantage of you and you got to show them you wont take it. Write an angry letter and tell them what mr-charisma said.

If they wont accept responsibility, go to department of fair trading and if that fails get legal advice.

thanks micheal mate.
i went in their yesterday and went to see the owner but he wasnt their he is in hospital at the moment.

i told the mechanic that has been working on my car if he knew at all when the hell my car was going to be done or be finished by. He told me he had now idea and that he just gets told what job to do each day and when to do what car.

i told them i want my car back within a month finished because powercruise is coming up and he said he didnt know if it could be done or when it is going to be done.

i am thinking the guy is waiting for my wiring looms to get back from sydney before he will get stuck into it. This is so he can drop the motor in and not have to take it back out to put the loom in.

i wouldnt mind if i went in their and they could show me they have done some work on it even in between jobs. It would then show me they are trying to get the job done.

The mechanic said it would take him like 2 hours to do the new braided turbo lines and the front turbo actuator. I said why cant you just do that then it isint hard and he can do it when he has small amounts of time.

But the finally thing he said was that he cant even believe the owner is taking on all this work when they have jobs they need to be done from like 2 years ago. They book them selves out every day for services and rego checks and seem to forget we are paying a sh*t load of money to have them do this stuff on our cars.

Their is my rant ova thankks lol;

+1 .. or at least tell them to give your car back & you'll get the work done elsewhere .. even if you hire a trailer & road trip it to sydney for ben's guys to do it..

At least if you threaten to take it away then you might get some action happening on it.

Just my 2 cents.

I hope everything works out with it mate..

Stop being an idiot, you are being walked over and you know it! Do as mr-charisma said, get it the f**k outa there. There is no way it should take this long, and some of the sh*t work they been telling ya is necessary is definitely not  (rear manifold anyone?)!!!

Let this be a lesson to everyone else, there is nothing wrong with writing up a contract with hard and fast dates and estimates of cost etc.

um i got told to change the rear manifiold by ben hah,
i am gonna go talk to the owner today about it. the only problem is their isint anybody else in darwin who will do such a big job. i am even just considering doing it myself with my mate. i know i am being walked over but as i said nobody in darwin will do the job.

BEN mate what pipes inside the engine bay did they move around so the motor fitted.
Eg aircon lines, powersteering lines

None. Hence we made those manifolds.

by nvr2low
sweet so i shouldnt have to move any of the pipes that are in the engine bay now since i put the manifold on saying that my car is exactly the same as yours man which i dought it will be.

i am goin to run the new selector cables and connect them today but i am not going to cut the whole in the firewall i dont want to f**k it up.

Where did you get the selctor cables? I need one of them at the moment.

You'll find you dont need move any of the lines to fit the engine in, but there are a few lines that need to be moved slightly for other reasons. For instance, I had to move the power steering resevior a few inches & hence I had to alter the mounting point of one of the lines so the turbo piping would fit out to the intercooler - but your piping will no doubt be different, so you may or may not have to.

We also had to manipulate one of the air con lines around bit at the front.

i am gonan work on it all arvo every arvo of the week and try and push the guys to do the braided lines and cut the hole in the firewall for the pedals.
i will change the accelrator and brake pedals to the manual ones.

I know you won't listen (I wouldn't have) but I wouldn't be taking a freshly engine swapped car straight out to a track day.

I would be giving it a month or so of normal driving then diving under the bonnet to tighten up all mounts etc. I had a mount shear the day before a drag day, I was fuckin lucky it didn't happen at 150 +

Brings me to a question though, have your mounts been modified?
