Ha, I don't finish work till 5
Might be able to duck away early today and come round to help out for about half an hour or so. You're not that far from my place, so would be good to meet another member. Whereabouts in pagewood/botany?

Hey Bestie....
Can you run a razor blade/stanley knife around and under the rocker cover to cut the sealant used, don't cut yourself though, even if you can cut some of it you might then be able to get a small wedge of timber in there and hit the wedge under the cover to lift it.

Ive had exams and been at work a lot trying to pay for Fiji and rego so I havent had money or time to do anything
After next week exams will be over and ill be on holidays, and tax money will be coming through so Im planning on getting a decent amount of work done. Hopefully I will be replacing the rocker cover gasket and learning how to do tappets, including taking the intake manifold off and such.
Every time I walk past the damned thing I want to take some sh*t apart or tinker with it but I just dont have the time

Slight update. As I will be finishing with school in a few months and undertaking a project thanks to dstocks, Its time to get the ball rolling in terms of planning this out. As you guys have seen from my absolutely AMAZING progress and work on this project (hahaaaa..) I have no idea what I'm doing!
So my question is, after having a look at what I need for a pretty much full re-co, is there anything aftermarket which I should be using instead of stock parts? i.e. camshafts etc. Pretty much, the aftermarket replacements I'd be interested in would be either not much more expensive in comparison to new (if possible) stock parts, or parts which are genuinely worth the money. Be nice.. I know im a bit

sometimes
(always) but its time to get serious with this engine to hopefully have it ready for this new shell.

Possibly look into forgies these days, getting cheaper and cheaper possibly worth getting pistons more than anything - depending like you said on price of OEM pistons

I entered the thread and sniffed some Gen Y.
Thought for a second you were buying the ute.
The Gen Y set.
Where am I?
I dare say, if you really want to put this engine in to the new shell to have a decent runner, then you really need to read up on what exactly goes in to building an engine.
From reading over the dribble above I can't determine where you are; enough to give a decent answer.
But more or less, you would want all new parts to ensure the thing will stay alive.
Have the heads checked and decked, new gaskets all round, replace sensors, mech items, etc.
Honestly things like mods make things complicated with these motors and ECUs.
Your best honest bet is to get the motor running factory form and into a shell so it's running.
And THEN go about modding.
atleast then you are confident in oem construction enough to understand where to go from there.
my 2c, ex. gst and carbon tax.
