Tight angles on the outside =/= tight angles on the inside...
it pretty much would though, there are two 90 degree angles there, even if it have viens and curves inside the air still hase to turn a tight corner

90degrees = bad flow

It could well be mandrel bent on the inside with the angled housing on the outside; this could be for muffling purposes (a-la standard air boxes muffling intake noise) or even to assist in heat dissipation.

Then again, without seeing pictures of the inside I cannot speculate further than saying "it may well flow better than stock as claimed"

All I am saying is that it is designed like that for a reason; and they are a proven piece of kit apparently.
