Non mivec ecu questions

Post by ColdHardHash »

Ok maybe i'm just crap at stuff but searching didnt show anything about this.
I've got a '92 Galant VX, with the DOHC 6a12, same as the GR, and heres what i'm wondering:

According to wikipedia:
[the 6A12] Later appeared in the 1994 FTO coupe with revised engine management for higher power output,
and:

2.0 L DOHC (Mitsubishi Galant)
Peak power - 110 kW (150 PS) @ 6750 rpm
Peak torque - 179 N·m (132 ft·lbf) @ 4000 rpm

2.0 L DOHC (Mitsubishi FTO)
Peak power (1994-1996) - 127 kW (172 PS) @ 7000 rpm
Peak power (1997-2002) - 132 kW (180 PS) @ 7000 rpm
Peak torque - 191 N·m (141 ft·lbf) @ 4000 rpm
Would this mean the galant's 6a12 ecu is configured to run lean? Or does the later fto ecu use more advanced timing?
Could my engine's performance be improved closer to that of the fto's using piggyback mods making up for the differences?
Or, is it possible to use the ecu from an fto in a galant?
Just throwing ideas around, anybody got any ideas to throw back?

I think the FTO would have got different cams as well
Maybe higher compression?
Exhaust changes?

Your better off keeping your existing ecu and getting a piggyback, the ecu i have gave me a 16bhp increase and much better torque, this has been throughout the entire rev range, also i have removed the MAF with this and knocked off 0.3secs of 1/4 mile
FTO GR - 14.60 1/4 Mile...Who Needs a MIVEC

Thanks for your replies guys.

Hmm, pretty sure the compression's the same. Where would i look for a part numbers list to see if the cams are the same?
My car isn't worth very much, I wonder if a wrecker did happen to have a GR i could get the ecu out of for cheap if it would be worth a try?
I don't know very much about piggyback mods atm, what are some reccomendations? I think it'd be worth it if whatever piggyback i got was compatible with a lot of applications so i could keep it and use it on whatever next car i get later on.
